Impossible Bandwidth Issue

I've been through two Xbox One consoles now, and I'm at my wits end for finding help. Before I state the problem, I'd like to start by saying I have rebooted, reset, restarted, and power cycled both my router and the Xbox multiple times. I've also done port
forwarding, triggering, and put a DMZ on the console. Both Xbox and my ISP(Comcast) blame each other and claim they've never heard of this kind of persistent problem.

When I first got both Xbox One's they worked fine, bandwidth was at 32 Mbps and I played everything flawlessly. By the second day the connection was all over the place ranging from 1Bps to 700 Kbps and rarely 1.2 Mbps. Simply put the wireless connection
is extremely spotty and I'd loose connection about every 5 minutes. Today I bought a Netgear ex6100 extender with an Ethernet port thinking I could do a hard line connection through that, but even with the booster my connection is still just as spotty.

I'm not able to run a direct line to my router because of the layout of my home so that option is out of the question. This issue is only with the Xbox ones I've had and no other device in my home. I've also run speed tests, and ping tests only to have them
say my internet is running at full speed. What is causing the spotty connection and how do I fix it?

Bandwidth Issue

So, I am having some issues with my connection. I’ve contacted my ISP and was told the problem has to be the Xbox One and that everything looks good on the ISPs end. The problem I’m having is wild swings in my download speed. (187 to 25 to 75 to 10 to 150...)

it's not satellite, just my bandwidth is being consumed at the moment due to other things. No it is not satellite. And a slow speed shouldn't cause a bug in the marketplace, just a longer time to retrieve and download things.

I am able to download other games and play online just fine, yet my license for fable 3 specificly is non-existant despite previous redemption.

 

try power off you xbox by holding the power button for 10 seconds while the system is on then remove the power cable for 30 seconds and turn off you router for 10 mins that fixes the problem for me

 

"I'm not able to run a direct line to my router because of the layout of my home"... I ran cable all over my house, not sure why you couldn't , im assuming you have attic/ basement /walls/crawlspace or whatever so , it could be done , it may be inconvenient
and involve a drill (and a friend to help with the pull) but well worth it imo...if you cant move the xbox closer to the router , can you move the router closer to the xbox ?.....at least to test it anyway ?

I have a couple of thoughts to add to the others to help you narrow down the cause. First - extenders capture your wifi signal then rebroadcast it and it should be noted that they can drag down the performance of your network. This might be why your connection
is all over the place.

To troubleshoot I would suggest grabbing some cheap network cable (and it is cheap) and running it from your router to your xbox. Its not permanent so dont worry about bright coloured cable running around your house but it will help you prove that it is
the wifi at fault.

Hopefully the cable works - and the connection is stable. Personally I had a network with similar problems and switching router solved it. I switched to a new Wireless AC dual band router - it puts out a much stronger signal than my older one and my connection
stabilized.

I also suggest you have a look online at wifi analyzer software (for your phone or pc) - you only need a free one and it will (or should) tell you what channel your wifi is on and more importantly if others nearby are using the same channel - this can impact
your wifi performance. Your router will have a setting to allow you to change channel.

That gives you a few things to have a look at, hope it helps!

 

Unfortunately, your best option is to swap the primary router. If it is from your ISP then you should be able to take the router into the service center and get a new one (call first just in case, to save a trip if not) if that's not on option then try placing
your router higher in the air in the room that it's in. By placing it higher you will limit the number of things the signal has that can impede it's transfer. This just might give you a significant enough improvement to play fluidly.
