I'm unable to connect to the internet unless connected directly to the modem

I'm connected to internet but won't connect to Xbox live it say disconnected everytime I try to play

Yes, I connected it directly into the modem. And I just tried the thing with the flash drive, still can't connect to the internet. : (

So, if your console is directly connected (wired) to your modem (SB5120) it can establish connection to Xbox Live, but not when your console terminates to your router, were you use wireless. If possible, what about an Ethernet
(wired) connection between your console and the router then?

I would also recommend that you visit D-Link website, to make sure your router is up-to-date with the latest version of firmware.

Primary, change the security type of your router to WPA2-PSK (AES). Save/Apply, and reboot your router.

Go to Xbox Network Settings and select Configure Network. Select the
Additional settings tab and Restore network settings to factory defaults.

Restart your console, and connect to your wireless network.

Post back and let us know how that goes and we'll go from there.

 

I have updated the security of the router since posting and tried to update the router firmware but it wouldn't download

 

I then assume your router's firmware is not up-to-date with the latest version of firmware. Correct?

Can you post up the link, from the page you're trying to download from.

Can you confirm that UPnP is ticked enable.

If you go into your console's network settings and select Test Xbox Live Connection, does this test fail with connectivity to Internet?

I'm assuming it's not on the page where the router settings are is says it's up to date but on the website here (support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx) it's not the latest firmware.
UPnP is enabled and the connection test did fail.

 

Can you access your routers web-utility. Look at the top bar, and tell me which version of firmware your router is currently using, along with the hardware version.

Where exactly did the test fail to connect to Live (Network -
Internet - Xbox Live)?

Were you unable to download the firmware from
support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx, or did the update process fail?

Do you have a third-party firewall installed on your computer?

Could you try download the following file: ftp2.dlink.com/.../DIR-601_REVA_FIRMWARE_1.04B02.ZIP using a different browser.

Make sure WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) in your router wireless settings is turned off. Save/Apply.

Can you also make sure NAT Endpoint Filtering, under Firewall settings, is set to
Endpoint Independent, for both UDP Endpoint Filtering, as
TCP Endpoint Filtering. Save/Apply and reboot your router.

Post back and let us know how that goes.

 

I have AVG installed, I wasn't able to download it using another browser, wps is turned off and UDP Endpoint Filtering and TCP Endpoint Filtering are set to Endpoint Independent. I am still unable to connect.

 

For a brief moment, disable the AVG, in an attempt to try and see if you're able to download the update.

If that didn't work, try connect your computer directly to your computer and let me know how that goes.

If it's possible, could you try connect your console with an Ethernet cable to your D-Link router, instead of wireless connectivity, and let me know how that goes.
