I'm Having Hard Drive Problems

I've been living off of USB sticks for years because I bought the Arcadia Xbox. Recently I bought a refurbished black 120 GB HDD from Gamestop. It appears that it has a problem handling memory. The first game I installed to it started freezing at random
times, and I assumed it was because I installed a bad disc, but then I deleted it and it worked fine. Then I moved a downloaded game to my Hard Drive, and when booting it up, I got the "Unable to Read Disc" error. That's when I realized it was my hard drive.
It seems like a gamble what works and what doesn't. Some games/saves work fine, and I'm able to safely move back to my USB, but others when I try to move, I just get the error message "Can't Perform That Action", which means the memory is broken. It's so much
of a problem that when I play a non-installed game, just by looking at save-file info from the Hard Drive will bring up the error "Unable to Read Disc". I've formatted it, removed it and put it back in, and it still has problems. Is there a way to fix this?
Or do I have to buy a new hard drive? Because I'd rather not spend more money just to safely store games. The biggest reason this is an issue is because downloads go straight to the hard drive automatically, and I can't change that, and I don't want to be
constantly removing my hard drive for downloaded data. Is there a fix to this? Or must I buy a new one?

I'm having no such problems. Mine works just fine and I did not load the game onto my hard drive. But that suggestion may solve your problems.

How can you tell if its the Console or the Hard Drive?

Sorry to hear about the Hard Drive issues.

For clarification are these issues absent when the new Hard Drive is not connected to the Xbox?

Have you tried formatting your Hard Drive through the Xbox 360 console? If not, Try these steps below:

• Verify you have moved the important game data off of the Hard Drive. To do this, check out our How to Move Xbox content
  support page.
• On your Xbox Controller press the Guide button, Select Settings and then System Settings.
  
• Select storage or memory.
• Select which storage device you'd like to format(120gb Hard Drive), then press Y on your Xbox 360 controller.
  
• Select Format, and you should see a message saying, "This will delete all content on this device. Do you wish to continue?"
  
• Select "Yes" to format the storage on your Hard Drive.

After you followed each of those steps, verify if the issue persists. If the issue does persist. I'd recommend bringing the Hard Drive back to the retail location you've bought it from.

These problems do not occur when the hard drive is out. My USB memory and built in memory all work perfectly. The only errors are within the hard drive itself. I already tried formatting it. At first I thought it worked, as I was able to install DLC on it
without problems, but I guess it was a stroke of luck. For another example of this problem (way after formatting it) notice how on my profile level thing where it shows my games that Sniper Elite V2 is there? I got it for the free game for gold members, so
obviously I downloaded it. When I played it, I got a "Disc is Unreadable" error right after pushing start. I'm all for formatting it again, but moving the working files is going to take time, and my patience for stuff like that goes away quick. I'd hate to
take the time to move the memory, format the HDD, move it back, only for the data to break. I don't know if the problems are because I'm an idiot and not putting it in correctly, or because it wasn't properly refurbished. The problem with returning it to Gamestop
is that these problems became apparent after the warranty was up. I believe it's still possible to fix the solution (maybe through tons of formatting), as memory can still work on it. It just decides randomly what does and doesn't work.
