IGN calls "Another World" a bad game

Yep,
IGN went there...

I generally agree with most game reviews, but this one I vehemently disagree with. I fondly remember this game from 20 years ago and how cool it was for its time. The gameplay, story, and graphics still hold up rather well even today and provide a fun challenge
similar to that of the Trials series (in that you will have to memorize how to get through the game via trial and error).

The worst travesty of all is at the beginning of the video, the IGN reviewer announces that the game is available for the PS3, PS4, and PS Vita - and completely neglects to mention the fact that the game is ALSO available on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Those
heathens! That's false and biased advertising! How dare they stoop so low!

So, good or bad, what's your take on this classic game?

Yeah, that's what everyone is thinking. But someone asked that same question and a dev replied that "Black Ops was designed around security unlike the previous games, so it won't happen". But only time will tell.

 

I'd go check it out but as soon as i open another browser, I get logged out of the forums due to being on a mobile device. It's quite annoying. If it's like Trials, I'll pass.

 

I thought it was ok for an older game.

 

Bizarro, to clarify, this game is actually nothing like Trials - the ONLY thing they have in common is their trial and error level of difficulty.

 

The same reviewer gave Gumamelee an amazing, and scored it 9.1, so, it's one persons opinion, I think Another World is dated, it looks like it is, and from a friend who has it, the controls are not so good, but not game breaking, I enjoyed it as new experience
in early 90s' but do not feel compelled to experience it again. each to their own.

With that being said, I play games the that I play because I enjoy them & they're fun to play.

A perfect example of this is "Hannah Montana: The Movie" game. I love this game & my only complaint about it is that it had more content (more performances, more clothing to buy / clothing creation options, and more mini games).

My favorite part of the game is using the clothes / outfits that I designed & rocking out with them on stage

Also, I would like to add that I grew up watching the "Disney Channel" and I like Hannah Montana. My #1 favorite movie at this point of time is "Princess Protection Program" starring Selena Gomez & Demi Lovato. I love their duet song, One & The Same

I'm not really into games with old-ish graphics and style. I don't always agree with what IGN says. Also just because a game may have been made recently doesn't mean I'll get it. I have to like it and has good graphics for me to get it. I have to say Minecraft
has better graphics than old-ish games and have seen peps making fun at how Xbox 1 can only play Minecraft.

Yes I've seen Hannah Montana the movie, it's alright; but haven't and wont try the game of it. That's what The Sims 3 is for. I hope they release the Sims 3 and Sims 4 for Xbox 1.

Younger players coming to this game probably won't like it at all, unless they appreciate the old school game style (i.e. die a lot, progress very slowly).

I played this game originally on the Amiga 500 and it was breakthrough for graphical animation, by using polygons. It raised the bar for all games that followed it.

For IGN to rate this game so low demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of classic our gaming heritage, which, coming from a supposed 'gaming' website demonstrates how insignificant IGN has become.

A 20 odd year old game cannot be compared to today's standards. It can only be compared to the games that were about at that time, something the reviewer clearly failed to comprehend.

The game was MASSIVE when it originally released which is why it got a '15th anniversary edition', followed by the '20th anniversary edition'.

This game IS a CLASSIC and I recommend it to everyone. 10/10.

IGN gives COD a 9 every year. I dont take them seriously.

 

The thing I don't like about reviews is that although they're informative, the downside is that they're also biased, which means they can potentially affect the sales of a wonderful game like Another World negatively. This of course is true for any review
(like with a restaurant critic), but there are many people who, for example, ONLY follow IGN and don't bother to get second opinions or look at the overall picture. As big as IGN is, that can be a lot of people even though it may only be a small portion of
their overall Internet traffic - those are people that are going to dismiss this game entirely based off of 1 person's opinion and/or never realize that it's available on the Xbox consoles. I find that disheartening.

While some people may think this is a bad game due to its age or its controls, I'll have to simply disagree. The controls play similarly to the original Prince of Persia games which is not a bad thing and the graphics still have an element of atmosphere
to them that help build up the world and story that is pervasive throughout the entire game. If you've played this game before and don't want to get or play it again, that I can understand - but I'm personally living off of the nostalgia and the fact that
I never actually beat it when I was a kid and would love to try to do so again. I still have fond memories of playing this game and many other games like it when I was a kid and I don't want bad reviews to spoil the reputation of this award-winning game from
20 years ago.
