If you're getting "Error 0×80820002" and your Xbox One won't read ...

OK, it seems like people aren't reading these threads carefully, so I'm going to try and break this down as best I can (Note: I do not work for MS, I am a consumer who has dealt with this myself).

If your Xbox One will no longer read Xbox games and is giving you the error code "0×80820002" (but still plays DVDs, Blu-Rays, and music CDs normally), then see below.

The AUGUST 2014 System Update (which came out Monday August 18 or 18/8/2014 or 8/18/2014 depending on if you're American or European) is the source of the issue. Somehow, it is disabling the system's ability to recognize games.

IF YOU BOUGHT YOUR XBOX ONE WITHIN THE LAST 30 DAYS: Take it back to the retailer and exchange it. As of TODAY August 20th, there is a new patch for NEW systems that avoids the problem. I can confirm this from my own personal experience. If you exchanged
and updated yesterday or the day before, you will need to exchange AGAIN. I exchanged four different consoles before the new patch was released because no one knew what was going on.

IF YOUR XBOX ONE IS OLDER THAN 30 DAYS: You're going to have to have it repaired by Microsoft. For some reason, the patch will work for fresh consoles, but cannot be applied to older consoles once the August 2014 System Update is installed. Yes, this sucks,
but it's life. Everybody's X1 should still be covered until warranty, so you should be able to get it repaired by MS without paying for the repairs.

Some people have had luck by doing a hard shut down (holding the power button on the console for 10 seconds) and then unplugging it. This didn't work for me. Exchanging the console again did.

If for some reason your Xbox has been off this week, you're probably OK as they'll likely pull the defective update and send you the new patch.

be sending my Xbox off to Amazon this week for an exchange.

 

Have Xbox stated a reason why Xbox's that updated yesterday or the day before can't be updated now in an attempt to fix the error. I'm in the UK so i'm not sure if the Update has been pushed over here yet

 

I bought mine on the night of 17th, went through setup and update and got this reading disc error; exchanged a new console the next day, went through setup and update and still has this error. I am going to try the third time tonight or tomorrow night, hopefully
like you said, that this already been fixed.

 

Just got of the phone with a support tech . I am currently installing the update on console number 4 im hoping this one will work. He told me that if you cannot exchange the console to use this:

And apparently that will also fix the bugged os from the previous update. I do not know for sure if this just another bs statement or not.When i asked him why they didnt just post that in the forums for people as a solution he said oh ya good point we will
look into it . They also offered me 3 months gold for compensation. Nowhere near enough for the headache if you ask me but anyways. If this time around it does not work for me i will try that option you need a 2gb flash drive for this to work. If not then
it will be money back. Im hoping this last console exchange and update right now will be the working update. Ill keep everyone posted.

 

I tried the USB thing and it didn't work for me, but exchanging it did since i open bought it 2 days ago and all fine now. i suppose the usb thing is worth a try if you can't easily exchange it, just to see, but likely it wont work.

To answer your question, I didn't get a straight answer out of anyone. Twitter and chat support told me two completely separate things, but I'm reasonably tech savvy and read between the lines. Good luck to everybody.
