If I install a game, do I need the disc in the console to play it?

Hi

If you log into your friends console all of your downloaded content should be available for you to download and play. If you own the disc version of the game all you will need to insert the disc install the game and play.

I personally have all of my games installed to an external hard drive then all I need to do is plug the drive in log into my profile and play from the external drive need to download of install the game on another console.

if that the case, what if i have a game i been playing it for so long and the disc got damage will i be able to just purchase the same game from the marketplace and continue to play without the disc.

If you install from disc, yes.

This was one of the features that was reversed when the Internet exploded with "Microsoft is ruining gaming"kind of media posts. Hopefully they'll bring it back for those of us who are always connected to the Internet.

Hello,

Some Disc's do this, like Halo Wars. It because there is a lot going on and the console is trying to read it. I recommend that you install the game to your Hard Drive, so that it reduces disc usage, which will stop most of the disc from spinning. When you
enter the disc in the console, you want to be at the dashboard. You'll Click Y on the game play option, then install the game to hard drive. You'll still need the disc in order to play the game though.

As others have mentioned, the disc needs to install onto the console in order for you to play. Disc based access isn't fast enough I guess.

When you do install the game, I've noticed that it'll download updates and install in parallel sometimes, which makes the overall time needed to go faster.
