    If you're adding it to an active Ultimate subscription, it would be 8 months of Ultimate. It would be better to add it when you don't have a subscription so you get the full 24 months and then buy an Ultimate subscription to convert it at a ratio of 1:1.

    I think they kept the old memberships for the original Xbox going for some time. And if it helps, the Halo membership card with the free extra month is still out there. I saw a thick stack of them at a Sam's Club last week.

    Just an FYI, you can get gold a lot cheaper if you don't purchase it directly from Live. A lot of other places offer deals on gold all the time for about $30-$40 for a 12 month. Right now boxdeals.com has a 24-month card on sale for $69.99 ($35 per year).

    It's based on how much gold you have on your account when you convert. You would get 12 months if you have 12 months, if you have 24 months you'd get 24 months.
