If I don't have the same phone number on my account how can I change it

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I understand that you're trying to change your phone number on your Microsoft account that is no longer active.

If you know your password, but have lost access to some, but not all, of your security info:

1. Sign in to the Advanced security options page of your Microsoft account.

2. Select Add a new way to sign in or verify then choose how you would like to receive security codes.

3. Microsoft will send a security code to the new number or email to confirm. Enter that code when prompted and then select Next.

4. Select and expand the security info / verification option you have lost and select Remove.

5. Select Remove again to confirm.

If the initial steps does not work on your situation, I recommend that you submit an account recovery form using this link:

If I may ask, are you able to sign in to your account on account.microsoft.com?

If not and since you have no longer access to your phone security information, try to recover your account via https://account.live.com/acsr

After submitting the form, you will receive the results within 24 hours.

1. Sign in to your account using your existing alias and password.
2. Go to Your info at the top of the page.
3. Select Manage how you sign in to Microsoft.
4. You may be asked to verify your account before changes can be made. Follow the instructions provided to select your alias:
   • Select Add email. You can create either a new Outlook.com email address or add an address that you already have. Then, select Add alias. You’ll be returned to the previous screen. Select Verify and
     follow the instructions provided.
   • Or, select Add phone number. Enter the phone number you want to use, and then select Next. When you add a new phone number, we'll send a text message to that number to verify it. Enter the code in the text message, and
     then select Next.
     Note Email addresses and phone numbers that are already an alias on another account can’t be used.
     

It can take up to 48 hours for the change to be implemented across all Microsoft services. If you sign in to your Microsoft account on an Xbox One console by using your Kinect sensor, you might temporarily
be asked to manually sign in with a controller. If you're still being asked to manually sign in after 2 days, try removing your account from the console and then adding it back.
You can use any email address or phone number you have listed as an alias to sign in. To make it harder for someone to break into your account, change your sign-in preferences to turn off any alias
you don't want used to sign in.

This requires you to login to your Microsoft account, so you must have the email address and the password. Once you're logged in, go to your profile and add a phone number.

Important: If you replace all of the sign-in security information, there's a 30 day waiting period for the changes to take effect. During this time, you can still access most Microsoft services, but you won’t be able to do things that require a security or verification code.
