I just don't understand why the boost can't be variable to what the hardware is capable of. It can display 60, so why is it either 120 or no boost at all?

The game does support 120fps. Make sure your monitor/TV can support 120fps, otherwise the game will only run 60fps.

Series X needs to review its refund policy on digital games

We'll first it's important to read the label on the game

It will tell you what fps it supports it only supports 60fp btw

Pushing games beyond the recommended setting isn't recommended

    Second and very important point

Not a lot of games support 120fps

60 is the main goal atm until more developers learn the tools

    This is regardless of consoles

Pushing fps will cause latency on even pc unless you invest a lot into your pc

And FYI it's only rated at 60fps

Most games will only recommend 60fps at max even on ps5

With forza cod halo and battlefield pushing 120fps because they are major studios and have multiple teams to use the fps booster

You aren't going to notice much difference between 60-120fps

On fast moving scenes it will cause skip frames

    And increased heat

    60fps

you can even get games to 120fps for the xbox one x division 2 is one of them
nope, that does not do 120fps, your lucky to scrape 60fps with that game for a start and none of the xbox ones do 120fps full stop, you can set them to 120hz if the monitor supports it but they will not play at 120 fps.

playing xbox makes myt eyes hurt due to the low frame rate, i play most of my games at 144fps or higher on pc and i no longer get headaches or fatigue like i do on xbox.

    Xbox series X support 1920x1080p?

I am pretty sure the Series X runs natively at 4K 120 FPS as long as the game supports it. You getting a 1920x1080 FHD monitor is 100% fine. Some developers have opted for a “Performance” mode and a “Quality” mode. So you might get a 1440p game at 120FPS
on the performance mode vs the same game at 4K with 60FPS on the quality mode.

Does my tv affect FPS stability on Xbox series s?

    Hi,

Only if your TV is a newer HDMI 2.1 set with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support. VRR smooths out the frames when they drop below a certain fixed rate. Without VRR, a game that is 60fps but can't quite reach its target will create duplicate frames every time it drops below 60. This will have an on-screen look of a stutter or judder, plus a quite obvious screen tear. VRR all but eliminates this.

Games that are designed to support 120Hz (120 fps) massively benefit from VRR as many 120Hz games can't quite reach the full 120fps which again results in duplicate frames, stutter and screen tear.

Variable Refresh Rate only works on TV's with HDMI 2.1 support and PC monitors that include AMD 'FreeSync' technology.
