Microsoft announced their vision for Win 10 months ago that's why I referred to a new OS for the One in regards to my concerns about doing to much to quickly. In theory it will allow (as it relates to gaming) developers to develop for a single platform and
port the game to every device (phones, tablets, One, PC) very easily.

I'm going to again be negative but I'm basing my negativity on Microsoft's history with OS releases. This could very easily turn into a disaster for gamers and developers. The Win 8 release was a disaster for PC gaming, it's just been within the last year
that games are benching equal to or better than Win 7. When you do that on PC gamers still have the option to stick with the old OS but on the console you're out of luck.

You've seen a huge jump in the number of games being cross developed for Linux in the PC world which would lead you to believe developers are looking at other options. I'm a huge fan of Indie PC games but I have no desire to see tablet and phone ports on
our One's so I'm not seeing any upside to this considering (that as previously stated) that the ability to port PC games to the One will be irrelevant because of the One's hardware.

I'd just prefer they leave the One alone into developers hit the ceiling with the current OS. I don't want to see them rush it and break current games or cause delay's in game currently in development.

Wireless N not connecting

I just setup my new Xbox S and it will only connect using the 802.11g and not the IEEE 802.11n. The rest of my network work on the n why not the xbox. My router is a D-Link DIR-615. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

 

^@Randever your concerns are pretty legit, but it seems it is a risk that MS is willing to take even with the tough uphill battle the X1 is having against a worthy powerful adversary, which makes one think that they should be on top of it to say the least,
they are too big and to experienced to make such a rookie mistake, but again nobody knows.

Maybe W10 is a well optimized version of X8 since their plan is from now on to release minor frequent releases,starting from W10 instead of major releases every couple of years.

Between W7 and W8 application ecosystem architecture, the change was major which is why the huge impact on gaming happened, which might not be the case between W8 and W10.

I remember back in the days between W95, W98 and Wxp, there wasn't a huge clash in games quality due to OS change.

I certainly would hope that W10 is well optimized and will take up less memory than the current OS freeing up some more resources for devs

 

Given the fact Phil Spencer himself greatly tempered expectations of the release of dx12 onto the Xbox One... I wouldn't expect a huge huge upgrade by any stretch. If graphics are your #1 concern your in the wrong place in a ps4 or Xbox One forum period.
PC has long held that crown I simply Care more about having fun.

I think they will modify the UI to align with win 10, I doubt it will be a win 10 version.

 

I'm hoping the alignment of OS - such that PC/Console/Mobile all use Windows 10 (under the hood) means we'll finally have the ability to play the same games across platforms (earning the same achievement points) - and in some games, being able to play Xbox
Live between PC and X1.

Unlike Randver - I think it's a risk for MS to NOT move to a unified OS, their current OS for X1 is poor. Also in terms of developers - the bigger change comes from developing for DX12 and that step I think is necessary because I believe it'll make a big
difference - but devs can still use old deprecated libraries of DX11 hence it's hardly making their lives difficult.

 

@f00xm4n - I think you're mistaken. I'm pretty sure it will be Win 10 on Xbox - it just won't necessarily look like Win 10 on PC.

 

I have read some articles today that does say this, so you may well be correct. Unfortunately it's just rumors atm.
