Idle background

So this is hard to explain but I'll try my best. I've noticed recently with my One when I game then go to something like youtube then back to the game I get a black screen. The game is still running but I've got no picture. Then if I go back to youtube
it isn't running in the background it just stopped. How do I fix this really bizarre problem

Idea for idle options

Just wanted to kinda put this out there and maybe Microsoft by rare chance will see it but there should really be an option in the idle setting tab to allow after a certain amount of time of being idle on the home screen the tiles on screen fade out and
just the background of your home screen shows. The reason for this idea is because there are some very beautiful and interesting backgrounds that people use for their background home screen but the tiles (even with full transparency turned all the way up)
seem to get in the way of the background at times when you just want to let the Xbox sit for a little while and let it go idle. This probably seems like just a little thing to most people but to some I’m sure this is a great idea. Just a food for thought on
how we could make the idle setting do something else besides show the community while your not using your console.

Go to settings, select preferences, and hit idle options. Now, uncheck “Show me things when idle.” This should get rid of the idle problem.

 

You might be playing a demanding game which uses much ram which explains why yt is not kept in the background. Try power cycling your console anyway as it empties the cache which can improve your consoles's responsiveness.

 

I'v tried power cycling 3 different ways but the problem is still there.

I would recommend quitting the game first then trying to launch it again. It could actually be a glitch from switching between the two.

Thanks for the advice but that didn't work. Could age cause such a problem and would factory resetting help?

I'm sorry to hear it's still persisting.

Now, to answer the question the age on the account shouldn't affect the games and cause any idle/black screens.

In regards to this, if considering factory resetting your Xbox One I would suggest to do this:

Reset Console and keep my games and apps.

This will keep your games installed and only reset the console's settings.

Is this happening to just one specific game, or to all games on your xbox?

If it is only one game, I recommend going to the developer forums for help by the community. There may be others with the same problem, as well as a possible solution there already.

I had the same thought but after testing it's all games. I do have 2 ideas on what the cause could be 1. Lack of power being received so it can only run I thing at a time. Or 2. Age the console is almost 6 years old and was 2nd hand and has never has a
service. So much like humans slow as we age so has it.

 

I don’t think the age of the console would cause this. Does that only happen when you use Youtube? Try using Netflix and see if it happens. Did you delete Youtube and reinstall it?

 

It happens with any app groove, prime, forza hub, youtube even if I don't use the app then game combo it happens if I go from a game to home and back to the game

Lack of power could definitely cause some of those technical issues that are happening. By any chance, do you happen to plug in your Xbox into a surge protector or directly into the wall? Surge protectors have been known to cause corruption to the power
supplies in the Xbox's and that can lead to technical issues with the software.

If you have the original Xbox One you may be able to come by another external power unit and give that a try.
