Ideas For A Better Forum!

Most old threads pop up because they show up higher in Internet search results. The auto-lock is a feature that I'd be interested in having. Stability is, of course, the biggest priority.

There are a few different navigation changes I thnk need to be made. Ones that were fundamental to the old forums. Make it easier to track your activity and what takes place while you're away. I agree.

 

Ideally we could put forth some solid ideas into the feedback.xbox.com site but it wouldn't hurt to throw some ideas around here and maybe develop a few ideas and hammer out some details that most would like and then make a post over there and vote on it.

Bowski and I have a few ideas for the thread and so I don't steal her thunder we'll hold off for a bit but if you have rough ideas bring em up.

Of course, as usual "M$ FIX YO FORRUMZ, THEY SUCK SO BAD" is less effective than "I'd really like to see....." We know mankind put a man on the moon over 40 years ago and that MS is a successful company and that at its core that should mean a big change
should be as easy as counting the number of eyes you have but its not. Feedback is listened to and I think if we all got together on an even keel with realistic expectations we could be heard and turn the listening into implementing.

So lets hear it.

Goth does have a method to her madness i''l give her that and i agree that the forums need something..maybe not so much necro fixes but most definitely some stability..i have a harder time navigating these forums than any occurring issues on the 360 and
One combined.

 

Just on the topic of necro threads, yes, some can be a little annoying, but I just wanted to point out this one: forums.xbox.com/.../6067.aspx

That was randomly brought back up last year, so first post in 2011 last in 2015 and this thread has actually been one of the most popular in the general game discussion since being revived. So I mean auto-lock yeah, but nahhh, haha.

 

Thanks to those who are actually throwing out some ideas for a better forum. I guess some people thought I was saying that "necro" threads are my biggest concern. Actually I can think of many things I'd rather see addressed,
but that was just an idea that popped into my head.

Like it, hate it, I could really care less. (those who know me know this already) I was just throwing an idea out there to maybe improve a forum. I've invited others to share their ideas also. Obviously every one here
doesn't agree on everything. Thankfully we're all different.

Hopefully this thread won't turn into a "I hate that!" when someone post an idea. I guess I'm just hoping that maybe someone who can make a change can maybe get some things done to improve a forum that some of us actually
like to visit from time to time. You're here aren't you? Anyways, carry on.

 

Spot on Goth! Everyone's thoughts and opinions matter here so let's keep things civil. We all use these forums and sometimes (maybe a lot of the times) they don't really work the way you want them to. Those are the times I want to slam my face into the keyboard.

So let's try and gather all the ideas an concerns together and prep it for the feedback forum. Brainstorm! What are your main concerns? What do you want to see? Once we get some clear cut thoughts we can get them up on the feedback site

Wanted to hop in here and say a few words. I've been hanging out in general forums and seen a lot of great suggestions. I would absolutely encourage positive feedback here and constructive ideas to create a conversation. I would also recommend (if you haven't
yet) once discussed and thought out you could collaborate the ideas and formally post at the Xbox Feedback Site . This is an excellent idea to start the conversation for thought
process and details of what you all would love to see in the Forums world.

Just simply going back to how the forums used to be would be a good start. They worked well, easy to find what you wanted, more posting options, ability to quote without headaches.

The amount of people that must come to xbox.com and can't even find the forums because they are hidden in a "support" tab, most sites you go to you just look for "community".

 

Updated gamer pics from XO (if we own one) and recent XO gaming history displayed on threads, when we post.

 

To be more reliable and fluid instead of waiting ....o.... waiting ....o..... for pages to try and load. And without the 'oh oh, that shouldn't have happened'.

O, and I have a next gen idea, let us post VOICE posts. We get like 20 seconds to say what we want to say, the site publishes the voice message on this site, and we can listen to it on the forums on this site. I don't know about you but reading through long
posts can put me to sleep, especially when they don't have paragraphs, what is the publisher trying to do, give me dry eyes. I at least try to brief read super long posts. But I do more than enough reading, every weekday and Saturdays. Who knows, it may encourage
more younger people on here.

Maybe also promote game specific forum sections on this site. The Minecraft forum section use to have a sticky thread on the subject of looking for friends? post here. But since the moderators have un-sticked that thread, the forum section is littered with
I Want Friends, Come Join Hunger Games, type of threads.

Maybe give out rewards for people who regularly participate on any forum section on this site, like free avatar clothes/props or free cheap games. I'm sure Goth would like to win some new shiny shoes to add to her Xbox avatar. I hardy use Xbox Rewards.

These are just ideas from me though. If they introduced Voice, we wouldn't have to write long as threads to express ourselves or use caps or exclamation marks. But I guess if they implemented this, the forums would turn into more of a playground.

As for the feedback site, does anyone here use it? Just joking. I've only used a few times. But I find you get more collaboration on this site. If you want I chance of Phil or Microsoft (other than the moderators and support staff) reading your posts, then
we really should give the official feedback site a shot.

 

I can already voice post off my phone and I guessing with cortana in windows 10 it will do the same

 

I use to participate a tiny bit, on the Halo Waypoint Forum or some Halo forum site run by Microsoft in I think 2011 or 2012. On it, the forum pages all had an htpps padlock on IE's address bar and the address bar was highlighted green. Microsoft, a company
committed to user friendliness and security for sure! But I think they did a way with that. Keeping a forums site THAT secure would be costing them. That's like internet banking level security. A forums site where forum pages on IE have https, a padlock, and
the address bar highlighted green. However, you do get that when you try to log on, on this site, and when you access your account details.

Another idea would be to list the number of posts you have made on forum sections on this site, next to your profile.

I actually said on the feedback site last year how Xbox 1's Dashboard just said "offline" when your friends we're offline. It didn't mention WHEN your offline friends were last online. Xbox 360's Dashboard says WHEN offline friends were last online eg. 2
hours ago, 3 hours ago playing Minecraft etc. And guess what. It got 92 votes and Microsoft implemented the change to the Xbox 1 Dashboard not long afterwards via an Update, so that it says WHEN offline friends were last online.
