    Idea for future SU: Game Patch Notes; Download Updates for Games (without disc)


    PC/XBOX/PS/ANDROID user here, I am neutral to the "pick your poison" approach most gamers take with their platform of choice.

    That being said, how possible would it be to add the ability to patch games (that are already installed on your hard drive gobbling up space) without having to "launch" that game first (to see the "game has an update" screen).

    Also, games that have received updates, would it be possible to read the patch notes to find out what exactly is being fixed?

    Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I look forward to any constructive feedback on these ideas.

    No Man's Sky (X1)

    I think that makes sense then as maybe the original download file or the file on disc is possibly just the data rights whereas the "update" is the actual game. It's a great game but on PS4 the disc version without patches was bare bones or unplayable. I do miss the PS2 days where everything was on disc lol.

    Have loads of complaints......

    All games will update the patch from the internet prior to installing the content from the disc. If you have slow internet you are waiting on that to download the patch first.

    You can install the games without being connected to the internet then connect and patch them after install if need be.

    On Xbox one.

    Games updates/patches download automaticly (depends how you set your console).

    When games (or apps) has been updated,in "games & apps" there is a star icon on top right of games/apps covers.

    Patch notes,can be read on game websites.....No other options so far.

    It would be nice to have a link when a game updates. It would take you to IE on the console and to that games website. So, then you could read the patch notes. That is if the game developers have posted them somewhere.

    I love patch notes, I don't care how small. Even if it is just a stability patch, I like to know what it is. And as Tzar said, the XB1 does download patches and updates if your Console is in Instant On.
