I will not be getting Xbox Scorpio DAY 1

Hi peeps, how's everyone's weekend going? With Xbox Scorpio due to come out late this year, I've decided not to buy it day 1 or this year. This is for a few reasons. I want to try hard to save my money this year, rather than spend it. I also already have
an Xbox 1 Day 1 Edition console with Kinect which is still working fine and does more than a good enough job. Also it will allow me for the price of Scorpio which will be expensive, to drop, and for more views to come out. Then perhaps wait for Microsoft to
release a Scorpio SLIM version, like they have with Xbox 1 and Xbox 360. Because Xbox has Xbox Play Anywhere. And because I have a high end custom desktop PC with an i7-6700k, SSD's, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and AMD R9 390 (which has a higher bandwidth 384GB/s than
Scorpio's planned 320GB/s).

I'll be getting Scorpio on day one since I can then put my 4K tv to good use. Hopefully there will be VR on the Scorpio shortly as well. If not, no big deal.

Whilst I don't agree that the Xbox One is weak (It holds it's own) I will be getting a scorpio on day one.

 

I think the Scorpio will live or die by its pricing.

The rumoured specs of the system are impressive but it is hard to see how Microsoft are going to be able to sell the system at anything less than $600 and we all know what that sort of pricing did to the PS3 when it made its debut.

 

I think I can speak for all the regulars on this forum that no one was surprised that you once again found a way to include your PC specs into a thread. {YAWN]

I will also be waiting to get a Scorpio. Mostly because I want to see price compared to how well it's received. And because we're trying to save since we're looking at houses. I have a 2 story, 2 BR, 2 bath with dining room and with dishwasher, garbage
disposal in the kitchen. Master Bedroom has a full bath built in. 8 X 12 rear deck with steps that lead down to a fenced in back yard. Gas forced air heat and central AC with a ceiling fan in the LR (which increases air flow beyond the furnace/AC's OG planned
specs).

I'm really disappointed in those specs. Maybe one day you can get a i8-7800k, SSDD's, 500GB DDR8 RAM, and AMD R10 666 (which blows away your garbage)

I'm getting it day 1. I'm guessing it'll be €500. Games will probably be scarce at first, but I have so many games on the One that I haven't been able to play yet so it's okay. I'll just play them on the new console.

 

I can't see the Scorpio being €500 ($531 USD), that's around the price for a GPU capable of what Microsoft say the Scorpio is able to do, just the GPU. They would be taking a massive loss on the hardware to be able to sell it at that price.

Personally speaking I can't see them taking a loss like that when the system is, at least initially, being said to just be a more powerful version of the Xbox One.

 

I'm sure they'll work out a good deal for the GPU. They'll be buying in bulk. Of they buy a few million of them they can get them for a really good price I'm sure.

 

Even with a bulk discount I can't see them selling for €500 without taking a huge loss on the hardware. The regular Xbox One loses them money on each sale and all the information I can find seems to show that the Xbox division as a whole isn't profitable
for Microsoft.

Would they really take a big hit to sell a console, that by their own admission, is only going to be playing the same games as the regular Xbox One.

Then again companies have done weirder things, so only the future will tell. Either way, the Scorpio is an interesting step in the Xbox life cycle.

 

Still, €500 would be about AU$699.30 or NZ$755.75. That's still a lot of money for many. I would be expecting a price tag of US$699 when Scorpio comes out. And you should be able to play your Xbox 1 games on it, from Day 1, as since it's just a hardware
revision of Xbox 1 (a larger hardware revision).

 

Oh I'm aware that €500 is a decent amount of money yet for hardware as capable as the Scorpio, it really isn't a lot of money.

From all I've read the Scorpio will play all Xbox One games and new games will contain a visual upgrade when played on the Scorpio. That's what I mean when I say the system will live or die by its pricing.

Are most people going to rush out and buy a new system when its only advantage over their current model is a visual upgrade? For around $500, it's a maybe as you can buy a new Xbox One for half the price and still be playing the same games. Any more than that
and people won't want to pay out for a little bit more pretty.
