I was told I could do one free Gamertag change but it's trying to charge me $10. Not sure ...

I'm on my original gamertag that I've had for 5 years (or more?). When I log into the change page, it says I'll get one free change. When I enter the new tag and click OK, it goes to a payment page for the $10. Any ideas?

Changing gamertag. (one time free issue)

i have contacted xbox support and they told me to post it in here for further investigating. So the issue is, your supposed to be able to change your gamertag one time for free. I have never changed my gamertag since i have had my account. I go to try and
do my gamertag change for the first time ever and it's trying to charge me 9.99? I have never changed my gamertag before and your supposed to get your first change for free...

anyone know how to change gamertag without paying $ ???? First it says I can change it then it true charging me wth !!!! I didn't even get my one free chance yet but trying charge me 10$

 

It appears that you already have a gamertag that you selected. If you selected that gamertag originally then you have already had your one free change.

 

Genesis is right. The free change is only available if you were given a randomly generated tag when you created your account. Since you have a gamertag you chose, you have already used your free change and will have to pay to change it to something else.

 

Wonton soup is delicious. You should be proud of your gamertag.

 

When you create an account, if you use a gamertag that you create, that is using the free gamertag change. If you would have chosen an auto-generated upon creating the account, you would have been able to change from that auto-generated one for free.
