When you start a subscription, it does warn you that the subscription will auto-renew unless you turn that off beforehand.

You want to unsubscribe from what? The more info you give, the more we can help.

Hi just to add to what's been said, If you paid with a credit card I would also turn off auto renew in your account subscription settings so you won't be billed in the future

The only way to get a refund (if you cancelled the subscription before the start of the new period) , you have to chat or talk with an agent from the Xbox live helpdesk > https://support.xbox.com/contact-us

There should be an option to "cancel immediately" which will give you a prorated refund for the subscription.

You can cancel your Xbox subscription at
https://account.microsoft.com.

To cancel your subscription:

1. Go to the
   Services & subscriptions page for your account.
2. Click Manage next to the subscription you want to cancel.
3. Under Payment settings, click Cancel.
4. If you qualify for a refund, you will be prompted to choose between cancel immediately (with a refund) or
   cancel at the end of the current term. If you don’t qualify for a refund, then you will only see the option to
   cancel at the end of the current term.

If there's no option to cancel immediately, you should have to contact Xbox support directly at support.xbox.com then contact us. Select the option for billing, and no thanks to the virtual assistant.
