I want to go back to an old gamertag on my xbox account, but it claims it is taken.

I know the 12 character limit but im talking about the customize classic gamertag option, plus it says the name is unavailable or taken when I try it, doesn't say too many characters.

EDIT: and how would it be unavailable if I already had it? plus I don't see anything offensive about that name

When a gamertag change is made the old gamertag becomes available immediately.

If you are trying to change the gamertag back to the old one and it is says its not available then its not available.

So the gamertag that you are wanting back is PowerUpVoltage

The problem is this MS made a new policy a couple months ago where any new gamertags including changes in gamertags have a limit of 12 characters.

The old gamertag is 14 characters so this is why it is not available for you to change your gamertag back.

It is because your name is too long

You have to cut off 2 digits since you now fall under the new rules

Unfortunately, if your original gamertag was claimed by someone else already then you may not be able to get your gamertag back unless the person who has it is friendly enough to release it and let you claim it back on your acocunt. However, if no one has taken
your original gamertag then you can go to claim it again as long as the gamertag follows Xbox Code of Conduct. Hope that helps!
