I believe this has been disabled on playing games through Xbox since editing game files would affect the game and due to restrictions, this cannot be done through the Xbox game files.

Thank you for the info everyone. Icestorm, I am trying your method, I haven't got it to work, but that was last night and I am going to try some things today with a fresh head.

It's so disappointing to me that no where on the official xbox page about transferring to a USB drive does it say that you will lose EVERYTHING if you try to back up the files anywhere else. Obviously I wouldn't edit the files. I just wanted to make a copy
for safety, due to how sensitive the data is.

So my suggestion Microsoft, please write a warning on the instructions page, or a popup when the xbox is done moving the files. I was mid-way through so many games I don't even want to play my xbox anymore.
