I want to change my name to someone else’s because they haven’t been active on their account

Thank you for clarifying that....I get confused sometimes...I knew it was something about 2 years, 2019 and August 2021 and logging in! Seems I forgot the 5 year bit. Think i need to start writing these things down lol

As of 2016 if a gamertag does not sign in to any Microsoft service for 5 years it may be freed up & the same goes for a Microsoft account as of 2019.

So,like you said,the end of August this year would be the earliest any tag may be freed up.

Even with these rules in place there is no guarantee that a gamertag will be freed up.

Gamertags can't be requested,if you want a specific one then you can either have that tag with a hashtag & numbers after it if someone else has it or just keep checking to see if the original tag ever gets freed up.

No-one on here has access to accounts and such to do things like changing names etc

Just because a gamertag doesn't look active doesn't mean it isn't...don't forget that a gamertag also links to Microsoft accounts so it may be they log in to MS apps etc that aren't gamer related.

I believe accounts are closed if there hasn't been a log in for 2 years...that started in 2019 and, from what I understand from others on here, the first ones will start releasing in August this year. So, you will have to wait to see if that gamertag is released.

Having said that, my understanding is that gamertags are no longer restricted to one person...if more than one person has it, then MS/Xbox add a series of numbers after it

So my live name can be changed? I haven’t been able to do that but I can for my display name. If I can’t change my live name and I truly can’t do anything to rid myself of this tiny imperfection in my account that I would be able to change literally anywhere else. I understand but i said that i was trying to change my second accounts gamer tag to my original gamer tag which was the 3 letter, because i would understand if i was trying to change the gamer tag on my original account again back to the original name,
but i wanted to change the name on a fresh account to hold on to the name in case i wanted to change it back one day, while of course keeping the account active from time to time. Thats all i wanted to do but then that happend at i was very disappointed because
i know it wasn't taken legitimatley and it's very obvious because like i saod he hasn't been on since he got the name instantly.
