I want to change my gamertag for the first time, but I'm being charged for it

After so many years of being NIBLING CORN I decide to finally change it to something else. The name I want isn't taken, awesome, but they bring up a screen saying I have to pay $9.99 (Which I find ridiculously overpriced to change a name, by the way).

As long as I can remember, I have always been NIBLING CORN, it was the account name I used before I got Xbox Live, and they are charging me for something that should be free right now. I don't know if it has something to do with switching
from Xbox 360 to Xbox One or what it may be.

Changing my gamertag

I am trying to change my gamertag for the first time, which should be free, but I'm being charged. I was told by support to make a post about it, so I hope this works

Being charged to change gamertag after Mircosoft changed mine because it was "Inappropriate."

My gamertag was originally [Mod Removed] and I received a message saying it was inappropriate and has been replaced with an automatically generated Gamertag. I want to change my gamertag to something I want but I'm being charged? Why?

First and foremost it has nothing to do with anytbjng to do with changing consoles

2nd tats not an error it is correct

Because you have a custom name

That rule doesn't apply

It is only wheb you were given an randomly generated name upon creation of the account because you were given a choice of a name from 2010 onward

Weren't given a choice

Well considering that xbox is the only system that allows name changes it's not overpriced and should only be taken seriously as it's involves rankings and updating them to reflect the name change

Pc systems charge 10bucks on some games and 25bucks on others

So 10bucks is on the cheap side

And that's usually specific for these games not multiple rankings on several games like xbox or psn

Hey there.

Don't think of it as a "free first change", think of it as a "free first selection". When you create an account on Xbox today, you're given a randomly generated tag without choice, and then can change it once to a name you select.

When you created your account, you were given that first free selection at account creation time - so you've used it already. Any further changes will require the fee be paid.

How long have you had your account? If the account was created after that policy went into place (06/2019), you would only get the 1 chance for a change.
