With regards to this error, if you are using your Xbox console I suggest you also check your console's locale or region you may check the steps on this link how to change or check it hhttps://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/getting-started-set-up/locale-faq

Aside from that, also check via https://account.xbox.com/en-gb/Settings/Home to see if your Xbox account region is set to the correct one. On the page just click on 360 account region and check if it is on the correct region where you are residing.

Note: it will take approximately 3 months before you can change your region again if ever you change it from the xbox website.

In addition to that, for example you are residing in US and the card you are using is not from US this will also cause problem as the card you need to use should match the region where you are currently residing.

i just moved from india, and Im not able to change my region to the united states. I've attempted to change my region in the past, but i always got the message telling me to see the region switch support page. I want to redeem an american $%) code but the
currency is still Indian

I did this already and it doesn’t even work I changed my gamertag about a month ago and it still doesn’t pop up on my profile why......

"If your gamertag was created for you when you initially signed up for Xbox (meaning you did not choose it yourself), you can change it one time for free. Additional Xbox gamertag changes cost extra.
If you created your own gamertag at signup and want to change it, you will be charged (fee varies by region and currency)."

The free Gamertag change on a new Xbox Live account lasts for 30 days. Since you mentioned it's been a few years since that account was created, that would be the cause for the charge popping up. Here's a different

Change Gamertag page to try out. If the free option does not pop up, then the $9.99 charge will be required to change your Gamertag. Gamertags cannot be removed from a Microsoft Account once it has been set.
