I want my games to run off the disc not the digital copy

Am I missing something here? You got Sunset Overdrive for free & then went out & bought it,why would you do that?

Not having a go at you or anything,what you do with your money is entirely up to you,just seems a bit odd to me.

Either way the game is on your HDD it will never use the disc to play the game the disc is just a DRM system. When you put a game disc in it just downloads it to the HDD same as the digital version.

Nothing wrong with liking or wanting to have a physical copy if that's your prerogative... but it is a bit redundant if the digital copy is already owned by you. D33dle's answer is on the right track. The disc drive's reader just isn't adequate to keep up
with the read speeds necessary for this gen of games. Therefor it's necessary to have them installed, and read from, the HDD.

^^^^ And I don't see this changing in regards to disc based games anytime soon. Reading games from a spinning disc at high enough speeds is a thing of the past.

I did the reverse, I bought SS overdrive on Disc and than got the free digi version. Strangely, the digital version downloaded and replaced the installed version.

I accidentally deleted my digital HMCC install. So many borrowed my mates disc version to reinstall to save time so technically I'm running of a disc install but using my digital license.

OP this gen of gaming. Disc is nothing more then proof you owned the game. And not a media format to play games. Time to get use to that disc are not longer the media for games. That why I not buying much disc version of games those days at all. Because
it just more carbon footprint to get thee game then the digital version.

I love my 2 TB Seagate. Oh my. I have around 15 games DL from discs and digital DL and everything is running smoothly. I have about 1.6 TB left plus the 500 GB XBOX ONE HAD! I love it. I'm about to upgrade to a 3.0 usb hub and a new monitor and headset soon
hopefully.

That's because your games do not run off your disc.

Not even the ones you only own on disc.

You use the disc to install the game digitally to the Hard Drive of your XBox ONE.

Then because it's a disc copy that acts as your Digital Rights Management and allows you to play the game that is installed on your Hard Drive..

When you own the game digitally only this DRM allows access without the disc.
