I wanna cancel my xbox live account

Hi, I've just bought another console and gave my xbox to a cousin. He has already created his profile, but since I'm not gonna use mine anymore, can he use my remaining nine months of Live or as I cancel my account no one can use them as credits?

And how do I delete my account?

How to turn off auto renewal

It is recommended that you cancel your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership using the option of turning off automatic renewal. If auto renewal is "off", your membership will expire at the end of its current term.

Steps to follow:

1) If you are not already signed in, click Sign In at the upper right hand corner and sign in using your Microsoft account.

2) Proceed to My Account.

3) Click Change next to automatic renewal. Change the setting to OFF

You will be able to continue enjoying all the benefits of Xbox LIVE Gold Membership until your paid membership time expires.

Note:

If you want to cancel or disable your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership immediately, you should contact Xbox support. Use the Request a Call from Support option on the official Xbox Contact Us page. Your account cannot be canceled through chat or email.

If you disable your account immediately, you will lose the time remaining on your membership subscription.

If you are on a 2 Year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract, and you want to cancel before the end of the 2 years, you will be charged an Early Termination Fee and other applicable taxes. Once the two-year agreement period is over, your account will not be renewed automatically.

You can cancel the 2 Year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract using the option of self-cancel your subscription on Xbox.com

 

Cancelling xbox live account and points

I am trying to cancel my Microsoft Live account but it will not let me until I can cancel my Xbox live gold points. I want to delete both accounts however there is no option at all to cancel an xbox live account in order to cancel the Microsoft Live account.
Does anyone know how to do this?

 

Sorry but nothing on an account can be transferred to another account. It is also against the ToU and CoC of the Live service to give or sell an account to someone else. Doing so could result in the account and/or console being banned from Live.

Thaanks a lot! I have tried what you said and I noticed I can't delete only my xbox live account... it looks as if my email goes to trash together and I can't get by without it.

Is the best option then deleting my game profile and saves and let my cousin make his own profile and buy his Live card to start his own journey as I did years ago?

 

Yes, the best option would be to let your cousin create his own new profile so that he can start fresh.

As for your own profile, there's no need to delete it (you can comfortably let it idle without consequence, especially as deletion will also delete the email and everything else) but if you have set up auto-renewal on your account then you should cancel
that. If you only ever applied Gold to your account by redeeming codes then you do not need to worry about this.
