I thought we didn't need an internet connection to play

One of the biggest criticisms against the Xbox One was the need to be online at all times. After major blowback from the community, Microsoft relented and we were told we would not need a persistent connection to play our machines.

I can't even log in to my Xbox One to play a game offline. Does this mean Microsoft lied? Or am I misunderstanding what's happening here?

This sounds fishy to me.. I've rarely seen problems but on release of a new game..

Some inside PS4 fan sabotage it. Also I thought we didn't need an internet connection to play games

 

Unable to launch event

I am trying to play event in solitaire, played one game, now it won't load saying internet connection required. POS

 

you can play offline, unplug your internet cable and you can sign in

WRONG. Not titanfall. and many other programs. LIES!!!

 

You can't play at all if you haven't set up/created/ported your XBL account. The system won't even let you create a dummy account without an internet connection.

So, yeah...the console is rendered effectively useless for those of us who just bought one today.

 

I can't simply unplug my internet cable to play, as my One connects wirelessly. And I can't unplug the line going into the modem and cut off internet for my entire house, as every single person in my house is currently using the internet for iPads, kindles,
and Netflix.

 

Frankie, you can disconnect from your wireless by going to Settings > Network. They should make it so you can log in and not be connected to live... I dunno.... like they did with Xbox 360.

Also sucks because some games (2K14) require you to connect to 2k servers to play MyCareer or MyTeam.

Another note, Xbox does not require you to be connected in order to play. That would be the game.

Regardless, this is all f*ckery

 

For some games that are not online you do not require a connection, the option to require a connection now lies with the software developers not Microsoft.

Titanfall for instance is an online only game so yes you do need to be online for Titanfall, remember most of the current games were in production prior to the DRM policy change.
