Don't tell me it's somehow normal to go from having 10MB updates to 10GB updates. That's like 1000 times the size, FYI. It's not normal, and there's barely that much executable code in all of Windows! Title Updates were intended for fixing bugs. If we have
to download nearly half the amount of data that's on the disc to fix bugs, I'd say that game wasn't ready for release. Now here's what's really strange: PS4 updates aren't nearly as bad. Perfect example... Sniper Elite 3 (day one update): 360 - 150MB, PS4
    - 400MB, XB1 - 10GB.....WHAT? I'd like an actual Xbox developer/programmer to explain that one, and all the rest.

    :)

    Female toons: Smaller targets?

The jury, for me, is still out on hit box sizes. I want to believe that they're all the same size, but I haven't heard anything official yet. One thing I've seen about Griffin, though, and Skorge was the same (I think) is that characters with flowing capes
can be hit by a torque bow arrow on that cape, effectively increasing their hitbox size with regards to the torque bow.

    20GB includes updates?

I have seen on gamefly 20GB in size that is huge! I hope that includes the 2.4GB update i seen on IGN. I have seen on gamfaqs it a 7GB download for the game. Then some one else says it is 20GB mandatory. I hope this 20GB includes the game and all updates.

Xbox 1 has better hardware than xbox 360. It is normal because games for xbox 1 need to look good textures resolution etc and HD stuff which can take a lot more stuff. Game devs dont have to compress stuff because x1 has 8GB of RAM. Game devs had to compress
stuff for xbox 360 cuz it only has 512MB Ram.

As someone posted in a similar thread not so long back, it's just the norm these days and they could see updates etc getting even bigger as time goes on.

I've said it myself before, I'm lucky that I have unlimited broadband and very good speeds but if I was on the connection I was 3-4 years back, I don't think I would have bothered just yet with these new consoles, it would have taken me AGES to download
    anything lol

The PS4 version of sniper elite 3 only has a 400MB update? Why is the update so large for the Xbox One version of the game?

Could be that PS4 downloads a super compressed archive of the update and the xbox one does not, don't take that as truth but that could be one of the reasons.

now if OP learned how to use Google or any other search function on the web.... (mind you this took a whole 5 seconds to find) the initial game was supposed to be released at 21G... It did not on the XB as it needed a patch for some coding so instead
of releasing the game at 21 G, it was lower and the day one patch filled up the gap. And this was only for the first wave on discs... not DL or later discs

Title updates on the 360 were limited to 4MB because there were systems that had no storage other than a tiny memory unit. The Xbox 360 also supported delta patching, so if you were patching a large file, only the differences in code between the old file
and the new file needed to be included in the title update, while on the PS3 you would need to download the entire new file even if only 1 line of code was changed, which is why patches were way, way bigger on the PS3. From what I've read, the patching system
on the Xbox One works like the PS3's, although I don't know if that's true.

The 360 way of doing things was good in some respects - it was great for users, because 4MB title updates download in seconds, even with slow connections, and devs knew that they wouldn't be able to use massive patches to patch horribly broken games that
were released too early. The downside was that the title update sizes limited developers, especially as they were only allowed to release so many updates for a game (I think it was 2 or 3) and they had to pay for each one to go through cert. Also, you obviously
can't add in considerable new content to a game such as new maps, modes or characters via a 4MB title update. For instance, Killer Instinct on the Xbox One got an update that boosted the resolution to 900p, which you wouldn't be able to do with a tiny title
update. Some exceptions were made to the 360 patching rules later in the console's life cycle, so games got title updates bigger than 4MB and some games got half a dozen or more title updates, but it was usually big games like COD that those exceptions were
    made for.

I don't know how patching works on the PS4, but it's had its fair share of giant patches too. The Sniper Elite III issue was explained by the devs and wasn't down to the difference in how the Xbox One and PS4 do patching.

Did you ever have a 50GB game on the 360? Or 36GB. If so I bet there were hardly any. Games that size will require more to update them.

  12. The reason for these big updates is because they happen for games that weren't completely finished. If a game needs 10GB of an update or more, then it clearly wasn't finished. The Xbox One should have came with a 1TB or even 2TB HDD. This day and age it
shouldn't have costed them that much to do that. And I suspect that future games will only get worse with the big updates.

But seriously, if a game requires a 50GB update, then it's clearly not a finished product.

  14. I think it is a fair point to be honest.

No matter the platform, game updates/patches seem to be growing out of proportion to the size of the games.

The unhappy truch is that nobody here really knows.

They can only offer their most educated (or in some cases "uneducated") guess.
