Sign in the Microsoft Store with the old account. Then, install "Minecraft for Windows 10", it should be free. After that, sign out your old account from the Microsoft Store. Open up "Minecraft for Windows 10", then sign in with your new account. You will
get updates for free if you do the following. I hope this helps.

This is not possible. If he wants an profile that "never signed up for xbox live free," he has to create a new profile on an XBox that is not connected to the internet.

May I ask why this is even an issue for him?

Hey there, last night there was a bunch of people having issues with

minecraft specifically. Either it was asking people to sign up for game pass to continue playing or general errors popped up. Still havent seen anything on the xbox live server status page regarding this so not sure of its on minecraft side or xbox though
