Are the gift cards you have show "Microsoft Points" instead of your local currency? These types of gift cards have been discontinued years ago, and have moved to local currencies since.

This move from MSP (Microsoft Points) have then since enabled the sharing of your Microsoft Account Balance to be used on your Xbox One, and Windows purchases. As of now, it isn't possible to purchase Xbox 360 games young Microsoft Account Balance.

so I went to the store today and bought a $50 gift card and redeemed it and it still shows my balance as $2 as before can some one please help me because this is wrong and I don't know what to do I need help..!!!!!!!!

Same thing here. My son tried to redeem a $25 gift card it hung for 30 minutes. Finally he hit cancel and then tried to redeem it once again and he received an error code that the card had already been redeemed. The $25 was never placed in our account.

Only the bottom amount shows on Microsoft stores.

If you do things, like Microsoft, or words, promotional credit you get from there does expire, and that is almost certainly the second amount. Money you add from a gift card does not expire.
