I redeemed a code for the wrong console - What can I do?

I accidentally bought and redeemed an Xbox Series X code for an Xbox One. Is there a way that I can transfer to the correct version? Or since the code redeemed wasn't compatible with the Xbox, is there a way that it can be undone?

Any help is appreciated as it was for a friend and I don't want them to lose the money due to the mistake.

The only way to exchange it would have been to return it (if possible) and purchase the correct code, but once a code has been redeemed, it is no longer eligible for a refund.

Theres unfortunately nothing that can be done about that. Once a code is redeemed there is no way to reverse that process.
