I radeemed a gift card on my account but when I try to use it in game, it does not work....

It does not show up in my order history, but when I look up the account balance the amount does include the gift card was added. When I go to purchase a game to use the money in the account balance it doesn't show the new gift card amount.

just to be sure, does the country region of the currency match the country region on your account and if you are console also the country region the console is set to? Also keep in mind that it also needs to match your physical location.
If it doesn't match then it can result in issues, like it won't show your account balance.

Also if possible please provide a bit more information what happens when you try to use it in a game, does it show any error message or something else?

What does it say when you try to redeem it? Are you in the same region as the gift card you purchased...ie as it's a US $ card, are you in the United States? As gift cards in a different currency cannot be redeemed in a different region....I have a UK account and can't redeem US $ cards

I have tried on the web and when I go buy a game on the web, it does not give me an option to use my $50 gift card. It says that there is no $50 gift card that I have even though when I check my balance it says that it’s in there.

Solution:

i had to add a microsoft gift card to my account. Once i did that, i had to call support again and have them use the balance on my account to pay the overdue balance on their end, as it does not allow us to use a gift card on our end.
