Discus and support I pre-ordered a game, I looked at it and it says the payment has failed. in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; I haven't had the time to look at the game until now, so I didn't see this issue until now.     I pre-ordered a game, I looked at it and it says the payment has failed.


    I haven't had the time to look at the game until now, so I didn't see this issue until now. How do I fix this, and can I still get the pre-ordered content I thought I paid for along with the game? I followed the instructions it said, which was go to the website, I did but there are no options to change or fix what I paid with.

    Hi, I hope you're doing great out there. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you with your concern.

    According to Xbox Support:

    "All pre-orders typically charge customers 10 days before the game release date. This means that you'll need to have a valid payment option on your account at least 10 days before a game release to avoid any billing issues. After a charge on your account has failed for a pre-order, there will be another attempt at a charge a few days later. If that second attempt fails to successfully charge, your pre-order will be cancelled, and you’ll need to repurchase the desired game again after you have added a valid payment option to your account."

    If it's stated as "failed" it means that Microsoft was not able to get the money for the pre-ordered game. Also, getting the pre-order content will no longer be an option since the game is already canceled, you can still purchase the game again.

    Please log in to your account at this link, https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders

    Look for the transaction you made for the game there. If it says refunded there then the game has indeed been refunded and it should be back to your account within 7 business days.

    If it says decline status, the system was not able to collect any payment from the payment method.

    If it says canceled, the system has canceled your pre-order due to failing to collect payment.

    Please double-check the status of the pre-order first from your account's order history on this link, https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders.

    If it only says decline status there, the system will still try to charge the payment method used for the pre-order in the upcoming days.

    If it says failed status there, you should be able to pre-order the game again and see if it works. A failed status means that the system has tried to charge your payment method multiple times already.

    Typically pre-orders are taken around 10 days before game release. I would check to see what your billing says at https://account.microsoft.com
    I didn't actually know that before, never pre-ordered something. But what it says is that the authorization failed for the payment.

    So, no, you cannot pause/delay the payment. If the payment fails after 2 attempts the pre-order is cancelled and you would need to do the purchase again.
