I own minecraft for windows (bedrock) but its not letting me play java and says i have to...

I have this exact issue. I own the Minecraft Bedrock edition (for windows 10), and can install and play it through the minecraft launcher. I get the message in the launcher that I'm eligible for the Java edition, and click to try to redeem it, which takes me here: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/minecraft-java-bedrock-edition-for-pc/9nxp44l49shj I sign in to my Microsoft account on the web, and it still says "Buy" rather than "Get" and there's no option to change things.

I've tried uninstalling all minecraft stuff, resetting my windows store and xbox app accounts, and restarting the computer. I can reinstall minecraft just fine and still play the Bedrock Edition, but the Java edition remains unavailable.

I got Minecraft pocket edition. But it should still count right? Also it only says I have bedrock and I don't own java. P.S it use to allow me to play.

Please try synchronizing the licenses for your account in your Xbox app, Microsoft Store, and Minecraft Launcher using the following procedure:

1. Sign out of the Microsoft Store, the Xbox app, and Minecraft Launcher.

2. Perform a reset for all three apps:

- Press the Windows key + I on your keyboard to open the Windows Settings and click on "Apps."

- Look for the app called "Xbox," select it, then click "Advanced options," and finally "Reset." Confirm the process. Repeat the same steps for the apps called "Microsoft Store" and "Minecraft Launcher."

3. Restart your PC.

4. Log back into all three apps, making sure to do so with the same account, and ensure they are not different.

As previously noted. Microsoft owns Minecraft, however Minecraft Java is not a Microsoft or Xbox game. The PC equivalent is “Minecraft Windows 10 edition” the Java version is a separate game not part of Minecraft bedrock, their-for not cross play with other devices.

Xbox owns W10 edition not Java edition

This offer is available if you own Minecraft Java or Minecraft for Windows. This gives you the other version for free. So if you own Java Edition, you get Minecraft for Windows (and vice-versa).

Now if you own only Minecraft Bedrock for other platforms than PC (Xbox, Nintendo, Playstation) you will not be able to get Java.
