I need help with a gamertag

So, I just came from talking with with xbox support, and they said that the gamertag was in use on a deactivated account. They said that I should come here and post on the forums so that xbox engineers can possible help me out with my issue. This issue I
have is that the gamertag "DeathsReaper" is not in use, but when I type it in the find someone search bar nothing comes up, and I can't use it as my own gamertag. Can someone help me out without me having to wait until xbox releases more gamertags from deactivated
accounts?

Microsoft does remove accounts that have been inactive for a long period of time. I am unsure of what this timeframe is exactly, however, I know it is over a year. Your best bet is to simply choose another name for your gamertag. Sorry.

Nope. Select another and move on.

 

If its deactivated it could be a banned account and that GT will not be made available.

If its an inactive account then the person would need to remove that GT from his account, there is nothing stopping him coming back in some time to use his account again.
