I need convincing.

I need help determining whether or not Xbox live gold membership is worth it. Could someone explain to me why I should get gold? Whenever I ask this the only answer I've ever gotten was "Just get it, its worth it" I know I need it to play with other people
and I get free games but is that all? I've played online before on many platforms and can't find a difference. On the PlayStation I can get all of that for a cheaper price, and on the PC I don't need any membership for any game unless it has a subscription
fee. Warframe for example, its free to play online on PC and PlayStation with no restrictions but on the Xbox the game is free you just can't play in a party or trade without a gold membership. does Xbox offer extras like bonus platinum or gear? What is this
game pass subscription? I've been a fan since the original Xbox and I've never found any reason why Xbox is better than any other console or PC. What does Xbox offer that others don't offer that justifies a small increase in membership cost. Why do I need
a gold membership? I look forward to your arguments and reasoning.

I think the other Ambassadors made some great points. I think the deals and gold games per month are a great value. If you also sign up for GamePass you get some real quality games. It's going to come down to your preference and play style in the end though.

 

Just to add, game pass does require a gold subscription as well and does not include one.

Also if price is an issue, it's much cheaper to buy prepaid subscription cards from a retailer. As it gets closer to Christmas you can usually find some great deals. You can also get it for free from the Microsoft Rewards program.

 

My thoughts on it...

Xbox Live has always been the most solid console gaming network, and with that comes a cost.

You get 4 free games every month, some are better than others (or some people like/dislike certain ones).

If you purchase digital games on sale, you will often get an additional discount on them.

Usually a less toxic player base due to everything not being free or throw away accounts.

 

there are a lot of benefits to Xbox live gold, such as game pass and free games, also you get some great deals on some games, and can pay less the price too on their specials.

Think of the Xbox game pass as a Netflix subscription for Xbox games including Xbox 360 games that are backwards compatible.

 

Hi, simply put, you don't need a Gold membership if you can't justify the cost. Here is the Xbox Live Gold page, it will list all the features of gold.

So after doing some math, If you were to buy 12 months of Gold, the cheapest option is a 12 month subscription, then 4 three month subscriptions, and lastly and most expensively 12 one month subscriptions.

There is no extra offers "like bonus platinum or gear", just 4 free games every month.

The Game pass page will explain what it is, and all the benefits.

 

To Gold or not to Gold? That is the question.

The question of what kind of gamers you are.

Take me as an example, I play games slow, as I love digging most of the details in the games as much as possible, so normally it takes 2-3 months for me to complete a game. Plus I love preserving the games that I love and consider myself as a games collector,
so physical copy of game is the key, and I would rather wait for a bit of time to have bargain or second-hand games. Moreover, I seldom play multi-players game (though I had ever considered joining Xbox Live when I was playing The Division), making me a carefree
gamer no need to bother being banned. If you are also such gamer like me, then I am afraid Xbox Live is really not for you.

On the other hand, if you are a gamer who 1) loves playing as many games as possible in the shortest period of time; 2) don't f-word care for physical copies (you can collect as many games as possible during the subscription period. Just download them and
get back to them later. But do be noted that
once a title leaves the Xbox Game Pass catalog, you will need to insert a disc, purchase a digital copy from the Microsoft Store, or obtain another form of entitlement [like a trial] to continue playing.);
3) needs to play with other players as you hate accomplishing missions alone; 4) want to get into the game fast to compete with the youtubers who uploads walkthrough; 5) needs accessing your saved games though Cloud... Should the reason above or others is/are
the key(s) for your gaming, then Xbox Live Gold is of course your choice.

And one more thing: you ask why you should join Xbox membership instead of PlayStation's. I think you yourself have already stated a very lovely point: "I've been a fan since the original Xbox". What's more, to be fair, Microsoft Xbox still have
many great exclusive titles that make you keep being loyal to Xbox. So why not join for 3-month, if not 12-month, for a trial to see if it suits you?

Now if I were a Microsoft or Xbox staff, I would no doubt jump into this forum and have a nice and thorough talk with you, but unfortunately they are just too lazy, letting the more helpful volunteer ambassadors do their selling job for them. I hate to say
but their pride and being nonchalant to valuable customers are also the elements that I am deselling Xbox Live Gold to you.

 

Xbox Gold offers access to free games every month, for example this months free games were Forza Horizon 2, Dead Space 3, and For Honor which are all pretty awesome games depending on your play style. But that's also only for this month, each month comes
with free games for Gold users. I got Metal Gear Solid and Vanquish for free also not long ago. You also get some pretty good discounts in the store for some awesome games. Which if you take advantage of you'll get more than your money back. They also offer
sales on gold memberships too at times which definitely help the wallet lol
