I need a highly technical discussion on strict/moderate/open, uPnP, and running multiple Xboxes

I have been scouring the Internet, and I cannot find what I'm looking for. Google searches are awash in articles attempting to make NAT configuration easy for laymen, but I am not a layman. I configure and run firewalls and routers for enterprise level customers,
and I need someone to talk to me in a language I speak.

I am trying to configure my router (enterprise class) to allow multiple Xboxes (3 Xbox One and 3 Xbox 360) to function on Xbox Live playing games and using voice communication at the same time. Right now I can't get more than two on a game at any given point.

Again, I am not looking for vagaries of "some routers' uPnP implementation works". I need specific details on why Router X works and Router Y doesn't.

    :)

  2. Problem keeping connection

Have tried to test your connection on the Xbox you are having problems with?

If so what NAT is at Strict, Moderate or Open?

If it's either Strict or Moderate try logging into your router and enabling UPnP.

    Open NAT?

the nat is kind of like rules. strict only connects with open. moderate connects with moderate and open. open connects with all.

    -

a dedicated server will be open so if you are strict, moderate, or open you will connect just fine. though technically i dont think servers use nat in this sense, but for our discussion it is as if they are open.

My router manufacturer is not listed in the hardware forum, and there's no place to discuss other hardware.

I think you can only ask the companies like Netgear how they implement UPnP and how it works.

  6. Azariah,

I am not in your situation so I can't share any similar experiences I've had. I don't think I've ever seen anyone get more than 2 consoles working properly on Xbox Live from the same private network before. You simply cannot forward the same ports to multiple
IPs which is what you would be attempting to do by having 6 consoles with 6 internal IPs NATed to 1 external IP.

My only thought would be, since you have an enterprise class router, you could obtain more external IPs from your ISP (if they can provide them) and NAT each external IP to a each internal IP assigned to your Xbox consoles thus maintaining a one-to-one ratio
of external to internal IPs. This would alleviate the problem of trying to forward ports to multiple internal IPs. Of course, you are probably looking at having to pay for additional IPs from your ISP, if they will provide that without being on a business
    class circuit.

Not sure if that helps but I can't think of any other way of getting 6 consoles working with Xbox Live on a private LAN.

Azariah you may want to check out this thread, as there are links to two very good blogposts on this item by spwanstah and even how they maybe solved.
