    I keep getting the 'You started playing somewhere else'


    I recently got hacked in my epic games account and eventually I was able to get rid of the problem but now my xbox account may be hacked to. I set up 2 Step-FA and the Microsoft authenticator but now I am getting about 5 messages per minute if someone trying to log into my account and I need to authenticate it. How do I stop this? Can someone please help. I tried contacting but no success. I am very stuck on what I should do to stop these guys getting back into my account and just leaving me alone.

We can provide you with some steps, but if that fails, we recommend that you contact Xbox Live Support for further assistance.

    Follow these steps to try securing your account again.

    1. Change your password: This is the first step in regaining control of your account. Make sure to choose a strong, unique password that you haven’t used elsewhere.
    2. Enable Two-Step Verification: You’ve already done this, which is great! Two-step verification adds an extra layer of security to your account.

    4. Revoke access on all devices except your home Xbox: This can help ensure that your account is only being used on your personal device.

    I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing issues playing games.

    Would you mind giving this a try?

    1. Remove your account from the console:

    • Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

    • Select System > Settings > Account > Remove accounts.

    • Select the account that you want to remove, and then select Remove to confirm.

    • When you're finished, select Close.

    2. ​Power cycle your console:

    • Press and hold the Xbox button on your console for 10 seconds, until it shuts down.

    • Unplug the power cord from your console for 5 minute (If you have an Original Xbox One, unplug the power supply from both the outlet and the console)

    • Plug everything back together.

    3. Restart your internet connection

    4. Turn your console on.

    5. Sign in to your account again.

    Also keep in mind they are still linked to your profile so if you plan to play the games somewhere else you will need to be signed in

    Inactive gamertags

    The only way to get the tag is if the original owner changes it to something else or they do not sign into the account for 5 years (starting in 2016). Keep in mind that the gamertag system is in use on other Microsoft services, so even if it's not in use
    on an Xbox, it may be in use somewhere else.
