i just brought gold but cant join partys or play online but can use the apps that require gold

i have just brout gold and it wont let me join partys or play online but i can download free games of the month and use apps that require gold please help

ok, but remember i do have xbox gold membership, so i cant play online yet or join parties.

With Silver you can use the friends list, message them, I think you can also use private chat too.

You can also use the market place to download items unless the item is Gold exclusive or a Gold timed exclusive.

Gold is required to join a party, use apps and most importantly, access any online feature from any video game.

The online pass that comes with a game does not override not having XBL Gold. Those passes are there to limit the restrictions of people who may have borrowed or bought the game used.

Xbox Live Gold is ONLY required for playing online Multiplayer, participating in parties and getting and playing the free Games with Gold games.

If you purchased a game digitally, you can download that without a Gold membership. You'll just be unable to play the online multiplayer part (if the game has online Multiplayer).
