I've been playing just fine up until today. I've had gold for awhile. My last card was a 3 month gold card. I've tried gta 5 and battlefield 1 and both have the same issue. Everything else seems to be fine. Apps work fine. I checked my gold status and I
have the ability to extend my subscription so I think it's fine. I've tried a couple things like hard restarting the console and clearing the MAC address. Not sure what the problem is.

Issues joining online games

When I attempt to join an online game, it takes me to a screen where it tells me I have an Xbox Live Gold account active, and yet it acts as though I do not and asks me to purchase one.

I am prompted to Join Xbox Live and can not play online

Everytime I attempt to play an online game (any game) it pops up “Join Xbox Live Gold” and tells me to join xbox live in order to play online. I purchased a year of gold on July 16th of this year and I have the purchase details.

When I check my membership it says Xbox live gold and I can launch free games with gold. I tried that speed runner game that's free right now and I can start it up without issue. Although when I try to start a multiplayer game I'm asked if I want to purchase
gold as if I don't have a membership although I was still thrown into a multiplayer lobby when going back to the game. I'm pretty sure no one can join the session though because it endlessly tries to find players.

It's ridiculous this just happened to me today but in my system settings it say in subscriptions I have xbox live gold and when it expires but tells me I can't join a party or play online when I attempt to play a game because I don't have GOLD. They ripped
us off it's a pain getting any kind of support that can fix this. It's not us it's them this isn't my first rodeo redeeming a card smh

Thank you for your reply but I have attempted both of these suggestions and neither have worked.

I switched secondary xbox to primaries profile and set as HOME and switched back to secondaries profile and it did not have live.

The second account "don't have Live Gold" this is correct, but, can use Xbox Live Gold, have you tried playing online or any other activity Gold related?

What game are you attempting to play?

Some games allow online play for guests that don't require them to have an Xbox LIVE Gold membership. Some games do not have that option and require that 2 people have the Gold membership in order to play online. Some games don't have the option to play 2 people
on the same console.

So, it's again, totally dependent on the game. It would also help if you would tell us what error message your getting along with the game your attempting to play.

While I don't have a solution for your original problem, you do NOT need a Gold membership when you want to play online on a PC.

You ONLY need a Gold membership on the Xbox consoles.
