I have two 360s. Can I transfer specific game licenses from console A to console B?

Long story short, I was given a new 360 as a gift and figured I could use it to install some digital games onto that I had deleted from my old 360, which I did and they've worked fine until the internet went down for the past couple of days. The GoD wouldn't
work and all arcade titles turned into demos. I did some research and learned the games will only work offline on the system they were purchased on. Is it possible to transfer the license of certain games to the other system? Both systems only have my account
    on them. No one else

    :)

How to transfer a license to another user

I have a couple of games I purchased and downloaded through the XBL Arcade. I'm done with those games, but my son wants to play them. I have already moved the games to his console, but he cannot play them. I've read the instructions for transferring licenses
between consoles, but that appears to be for cases where I'm replacing my console with a new console. That is not the case here. I own two consoles and want to transfer the license for two specific games to that console while leaving the rest where they
are. Is there any way for me to transfer the license for specific games to a different console and user account? If not, I am very unhappy with XBox. I purchased the license for these games and should be able to move them to another console and let my son
play them. I understand why I should not be able to play them on two consoles using two user accounts simultaneously, but I SHOULD be able to fully transfer them to my son and his console. Please help!

Alternatively you can contact XBOX Support and see if they can move the licenses over for you since you and your roommate have two XBOX's and have each other's gamertags on the consoles. You can also easily do a license transfer on the other console for
those two specific DLC titles (mind you, this can only be done once every year).

[/quote]Support wont help in this case. From Mister Gwyther: Phone support will only perform a license transfer in extreme cases. Phone support is not there to provide license transfers all the time.

Also the time frame for license transfers has changed, it can now be done every four months. Plus when you do a license transfer it is an all or nothing deal, the console license for everything belonging to that gamertag will be moved, you can't pick specific
    items to transfer.

A license transfer can also be done on the console alone, no need to involved the web. The option is in Account Management.

The license transfer will transfer all licenses. There is no way to pick and choose which licenses are moved.

offline arcade play is it possible?

    Hello,

This will happen if you purchase a game on another console other than your own using your gamertag, or you've transferred your licenses to another console.

If you have purchased a new console after purchasing content on your old console, or you purchased this content using another Xbox 360 (friend/family members), you'd need to do a license transfer to your own console so you're able to play games online and offline.

Information on how to initiate a license transfer can be found here. You should specifically be looking at the instructions under "Can I transfer a content license from one Xbox 360 console
to another?". You'll want to follow those instructions from the console you're not able to play these games offline.

Please remember that only the person that actually purchased the content holds the rights to being able to do a license transfer for that content. If the content wasn't purchased using this gamertag then doing a license transfer wouldn't solve your issue.

    Question regarding license transfer

So this mean that after the license transfer to console B, all the games in console A will not be able to played using my sons account. I rather not transfer the license since with current setup, I can still play the download games in my console B while
my sons play theirs on console A. The only problem is with Forza Horizon which need a license transfer to work on console B. Without the transfer, it will have the disc error error that many forumers have been complaining. It mean that I can never play
this game as I cannot re-purchase with the same account and license tranfer will mess up my games licenses spread in the two consoles. Any one has a better solution ?

Missing Info After Hard Drive Transfer

    Hello Dejamus,

    I hope this helps!

    What is "Digital Rights Management"?

Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology is used by content providers such as Xbox LIVE Marketplace to control how game and video files are used and distributed. Xbox LIVE Marketplace sells and rents DRM-protected videos, games, and add-in content that
are covered by media usage rights that allow specific uses of that content.

When you purchase content, you receive a license to use that content. The license has two parts: the system license and the local license. The system license applies to the gamertag that purchases the content, and the local license applies
to the console where you first downloaded the content.

Can I transfer a content license from one Xbox 360 console to another?

Yes, you can transfer content licenses from one console to another once every four months.

If your console was recently repaired or if you’ve purchased a new console, use the license transfer option on your console to transfer content licenses. Here’s how:

    1. On your console, sign in to Xbox LIVE using the gamertag that you used to purchase the content.
    • Go to Settings and select Account.
    • Go to Your Billing Options and select License Transfer.
    • Follow the instructions to transfer the content licenses.
After the licenses are transferred, you need to download the content again to update the local licenses. Then the content can be used by other profiles on your console and when you’re not connected to Xbox LIVE.

For information about how to download previously purchased content, see Buy and redownload content from Xbox LIVE.

    What is protected content?

Protected content is any game, video, or add-in that uses Digital Rights Management protection. To play a protected game, video, or add-in, you must have the license for that content.

    Examples of protected content

    • Games
    • TV shows
    • Movies
    • Music videos
    • Game add-in content

    What is a license?

A license is another name for media usage rights.

How does the Xbox 360 console use licenses?

When you try to use a protected game, video, or add-in, the Xbox 360 console checks whether you have a valid license for that piece of content. If the license allows you to use the content, the Xbox 360 console plays the content or allows use of the add-in.

If the Xbox 360 console doesn’t find a valid license for the content or if the license doesn't permit you to perform the action, your Xbox 360 console won't perform the action. Typically, you receive an error message that states why the action wasn't performed.

How do I get licenses for content?

Licenses are automatically acquired when you download content. If a license is missing or has become corrupted, you can access the download history on your Xbox 360 console and redownload that content to reacquire its license. This process refreshes existing
licenses but doesn't transfer licenses to a new console unless you first used a license transfer tool to do that.

What is a "roaming" Xbox 360 console?

The term “roaming” refers to using content that you purchased on one Xbox 360 console (say, console A) on another Xbox 360 console (say, console B). For example, you might download a game from the Xbox LIVE Games Store to console A, and then attach the hard
drive that contains that game to console B. When you attach the hard drive to console B and sign in to Xbox LIVE, you can play the game without any restrictions.

Note For such roaming to be allowed, you must be connected to Xbox LIVE by using the profile that purchased the content so the license to the content can be verified.

Why can't I view, play, or use previously downloaded content?

Follow the troubleshooting steps at Can’t play downloaded Xbox LIVE content.

Can I transfer content from one Xbox LIVE account to another?

No. Content licenses are stored in the Xbox 360 console rather than in the Xbox LIVE account.

To enable someone else's Xbox LIVE account to use your content licenses, you must download your Xbox LIVE profile and then transfer your content licenses to that person's Xbox 360 console.

After you've downloaded your Xbox LIVE profile and transferred your content licenses to another Xbox 360 console, the content can be used by all the profiles on that console.

Why do I get the error message "This item cannot be transferred between profiles" when I try to transfer content to a different profile?

Some items that are stored on your Xbox 360 console can’t be transferred from one profile to another. For example, Xbox LIVE Games Store content can’t be transferred to a different profile. If you can't move an item to a different profile, you have to download
the item using the second profile in the same way that you obtained the item using the original profile.

Note You must recreate some items in the second profile. For example, you must recreate a saved game under the second profile.
