is it the standard edition or is it a deluxe/gold/goty edition with dlc or other add-ons bundled with it?

only the standard edition is backwards compatible so if you have any other edition it will give that error.

if it is the standard edition, let us know and well try and work out why it isn't working

If you have pre-ordered the ultimate edition, then you should get the ultimate edition. The ultimate edition of the game does include the standard edition of the game, and any extras that is included with the ultimate edition. This is probably why it shows the standard edition as pre-ordered.
