What fixed it was installing Xbox on the PC. Not Xbox game bar but just plain Xbox. It is like the Microsoft Store but for games mostly. It recognized that I needed to update Microsoft Flight Sim but would not do it. I clicked on the update for Microsoft Flight Sim and nothing would happen. But then I went back to Microsoft Store and it recognized I needed to update MSFS and did it. Problem solved.

What you see in the store is the launcher plus some base game files (20Gbish as I recall). The rest of the game is updated and downloaded internally, outside of the store. You need to take these updates to play.

With update issues like these, I would suggest checking your PC/ Windows 10 latest updates. Also, to make sure you're running the latest version, install Store updates regularly.

• Click the Store icon pinned to your menu bar or type “Store” in the “Type here to search bar” next to the Start icon then select “Open”
  
• In the top right corner of the Microsoft Store app—next to your profile icon—click on the three-dots menu.
  
• In the drop-down menu, select Downloads and updates.
  
• Click Get updates then Update all and wait for the updates to install.
  

Give it a try and let us know the results!

If the update didn't appear it will be necessary to completely reinstall the game through the Xbox app.

I have not been able to complete a MSFS update since the mandatory update some weeks ago. I have tried to uninstall Xbox and MSFS and reinstall but no mater what I try it fails. If I start it off from inside the xbox app it gets to a screen asking ne to hit any key to start but nothing happens. If I start it off from inside the MS store it gets to the installation manager screen telling me it will download 110.66gig but again nothing happens. it is showing 1.19.8 as the current version.

I have a new 1660supper Video card with 6gig an I7 38gh and 16 gig of ram.

Any help would be appreciated
