The can't autherise the payment method means you entered the payment information wrong, so you don't have enough money in you account to buy whatever your trying to buy. What are you trying to purchase and what payment method are you using?

If I asked my cousin to try and buy it in the US, it shows pay with account balance, however when he clicked next, it asked him to put a payment method

I'm having the same issue. added card to my sons account as a payment method but cards show up in the credit cards section of his account in my MS family. when i approve a purchase instead of asking me to add money to his account, it appears as if I'm buying it for him using the payment method linked to my MS account, even though on the xbox he selected the credit card linked to his account.

1. why doesn't the credit card linked to his personal MS account show up in the credit section for him in My family

2. Why is it trying to use my payment method to pay for a game i approved, when he selected the payment method linked to his account when requesting permission to buy?

I agree that it is a little cumbersome to buy for kids but I have not had the same experience as you.

When my kids needs funds to buy Fortnite v-bucks for example, I add the funds to their Xbox/Microsoft account and they are then able to use the money in game.

It would much easier to have a way to authorize payment of the exact payment from the billing methods linked to the parent account - the approval could be to approve the game and payment.
