I have main account on son's Xbox One but I now want to send it to where he lives with his ...

My son lives with his mother in another part of the country. I want to send him the Xbox One, but don't know how I should set the Xbox One up before sending.

The Xbox is now setup for two people, my son (under 18) who is main/sole user and me - but I am main account person on Xbox - including having paid for 12 month Gold, and a couple of download games (other games are bought Disc versions).

My knowledge of Xbox is not that good and I do not know how I should go about dealing with this change (the Xbox One no longer being at my home) regarding how to set it up. I am assuming I will have to keep my account open on the Xbox since I have paid for
the Gold and games (and my son is not 18 and has no bank account - mother won't assist in any way in this)?

So how do I go about setting this up for this situation? Which (where) settings do I have to make so that my son can play freely (but that my account remains safe) - as I won't be able to make any changes (go into my account) on the Xbox One, once it is
at his mother's?

When I set up my son's xbox live account I used my email address as he didn't have on at the time. Now that he has an email address I want to remove my email address and name from his live account and use his name and email address but cannot figure it
out. Lastly, I would like to be able to keep his gamertag plus his credits etc, thank yoyu

 

xbox gold billing and shared membership - please take pity on a noob!!

Apologies if this is the wrong place, I'm a total noob here and not remotely familiar with xbox one. I've looked in all the obvious places for a coherent answer and not found one!

So, my son has a gold account, which I pay for and which he apparently shares with his dad (we are not together); I want to know how much is his dad benefitting from sharing this membership? He set up a lot of my son's profile etc, so for all I know could
have set up his own xbox as my son's 'home' one. I need to know - can he access my bank details from this sharing and how do I know if my son's console here is the 'home' one?

I've cancelled the auto-renewal for now, I don't want to be paying for my ex's gaming (obviously), but don't want my son to lose out either - how do I navigate this issue? The microsoft site just takes me around in circles...

You just have to set your account as xbox home:

support.xbox.com/.../my-home-xbox

My home Xbox setting allows you to do the following:

Share games and downloadable content purchased from the Store with anyone else who signs in on your console. You can even share games downloaded as part of a subscription.

Share your Xbox Live Gold subscription with anyone else who signs in on your console.

This way you can share the purchased games and the gold membership with your son's account

can I run though this just to make sure I get it right:

I change (under settings/Personalization) the setting to: My home

then I can send the Xbox (with my account still on it but password protected)

my son can play games and do everything else (except access my account) just like he can when he is here

as simple as that!

I guess I have understood this right?

BUT:

is there any occasion likely to arise - which only the main account person can do - through the main account?

(Updates/or ?/?/? - because I cannot access the Xbox personally once I send it)

 

You got it all correct. Your son will be able to do everything permitted to the account of a minor through his account while sharing all the perks of gold membership and game sharing with your account.

I checked the Xbox One - it is already set at My Home - I guess my son would have previously not been able to play if it wasn't!

So that is okay!

My only uncertainty is the last part of my previous post:

Could any (or is it likely that a) situation arise in which the Xbox One could become unusable, because something (?) needed to be done, that can only be done through the main account (which my son cannot access - and I cannot access because of where the
Xbox is)?
