I have decided not to upgrade to 4K

I have decided to wait until next year when Scorpio comes out & buy a 4k tv to use with it at the same time, I've seen my mates tv running 4k films & while it is noticeably better, I'm quite happy watching my blurays & dvd's. It will be games that get me
to make the jump to 4k.

I watched him playing gtav on the s with hdr10 enabled on the tv, & I found that to be an impressive difference so can only imagine what Scorpio will be capable of.

This is true. I have 2 tvs that are considered top quality by most. One is a 1080p and the other is a 4k. Well, with 1080p content they both are similar with a little bit better quality on the 4k due to the quality upscaling. With full 4k content there
is a huge difference. Especially with the better color settings if the content works with it.

I was showing some people the difference that actually thought the difference was minimal. Mostly from what they had read around but also from some viewing of said tvs other places. They did not realize it was like anything. I showed an old dvd on the
1080 set and it was ok. The blue ray looked great. Same with the 4k set. Then I popped in some true 4k content on the 4k set and everyone had the reaction of Wow. So much so that several have already purchased 4k sets.

Gaming wise I can absolutely tell the difference between the same game running on Xbox One, PS4, and my PC. Setting the game to 4k with decent settings looks so much better than 1080p. Is it a necessity? No. But it really is nice. And these sets are
really coming down in price. My son purchased a set, LG, that has 4k/60 inputs (some older sets would not do this) with hdr and stuff like that.

 

Good for you , I bought one of those curved Samsung beauties the other week . Picture quality is blinding , can watch Netflix without switching on my Xbox and blu-Ray discs upscale , I would say my games upscale slightly too but that might just be my mind
and eyes playing tricks , oh yeah , it's got voice commands too .

 

While the picture quality on curved T.V.s is nice, I couldn't have one...have this strange compulsion to "straighten" them out whenever seeing them in the stores; could just see after a few beers trying to do that and needing a new T.V.. Lol.

I bought a curved TV last Christmas, but took it back a few days later. My family and I couldn't get used to it and I didn't want to hear complaining about it anymore.

 

Kinda off topic but the GS video shows just how beautiful AC Unity looks, I hate to say it and go against my own so called beliefs but AC Syndicate is visually so unimpressive in comparison.

I don't really care about not being able to see the textures of the surfaces in 4K to be honest.

During the transition from 240p to 1080p on my Xbox 360, the difference was like night and day (for me). 240p was super ultra blurry compared to 1080p.

Reading in game text on a 240p resolution was ridiculously difficult / impossible.

Reading text on a 1080p TV was very easy.

I do notice the difference between 1080p and 4K.

But in MY opinion, I couldn't care any less if I can't see the surface textures of things that are too far back in the distance for 1080p to display.

I still say, the difference between 1080p and 4K isn't that big of a leap as opposed to the one that was present from the transition between 240p into 1080p.

1080p is not a super ultra blurry, but I will NEED to upgrade to 4k when it becomes difficult / impossible for me to read the text in 1080p because of the 4K resolution issue.

Like I've said before, I can afford to pick-up the Xbox One Scorpio (if it was out now) and a 40 inch 4K TV now if I wanted to.

Lei Fang, why do you keep mentioning 240p, because *no* game has rendered in that resolution for more than 20 years (well, technically, the Nintendo handhelds might be cases in point), but as far as last-generation specifications, the original Xbox and 360
rendered in 720p or higher. Perhaps you're referring to 480p, the equivalent to VGA?

Since you've already done some research regarding the Gearbox vs Aliens CM disaster, you may care to look into the history of CRT. Prior to owning my Sony Bravia LED LCD, my previous monitor was a Sony WEGA CRT widescreen, which had display resolutions of
480p, 576p, 720p and 1080i. As for videogame resolution through the ages, it varies. For example, before owning the original Xbox, I played on the SEGA Dreamcast, and its highest resolution was 640x480 when using a VGA box.

Prior to the Dreamcast, my earliest consoles were SEGA Genesis (or Megadrive in Europe and elsewhere), which displayed at 320x224 and SEGA Saturn (640x224). So technically, the 240p generation existed 20 years ago! And that's why you noticed a difference
between 480p and 1080p - more pixels! I haven't seen 4K yet for myself, but I'm certainly in no hurry.

 

I might upgrade once live TV is actually broadcast in 4k. Until then I see very little point in upgrading.

I still want live TV for baseball games mostly. I could use mlb.tv, but then I'd need a proxy server to get around the blackout dates. Not to mention that by the time I pay for mlb.tv, Netflix, and Hulu, it's cheaper just to get the TV package. I also have
a tivo, so there's no equipment rental or other BS from the cable company.

 

I can't even watch sports live. I need to live stream all of my sports as I don't live in America anymore. I couldn't deal with commercials anymore unless it's during a sporting event.
