I have a question relating to Gamertag, Console and Old content.

Hello.I had purchased an Xbox 360 White model with the 60 GB harddrive before 4-5 years.I played couple of games on this console especially the Halo franchise.In the year 2012 i deleted all the data from the console including the gamertag and all game content.I
followed the standard procedure of entering the console model number for deleting all the data from the console.

After having done that, i gifted the console to my cousin because he had never played on a console before.My question is that if i purchase a new Xbox(Xbox one or Xbox 360 250 gb), how can i retrieve my old data? I would also like to change my gamertag.Shall
i first download my old gamertag and data on the new console and change my gamertag after having done that? My final question is will my achievements remain or will they be lost? I have done research on the Xbox website but i am posting this question because
many things are linked together and i dont want anything to go wrong.Any help will be appreciated.

Yes you can use your old hard drive on the new console but you'll lose access to all your old content.

 

Data Transfer Question (s)

Licenses only apply to downloaded content, not to games on disk. The "DRM" license for downloaded content is attached to 1) the purchasing gamertag, and 2) the console I.D. of the console that downloaded it. So if you haven't changed consoles since you
purchased content with the old gamertag, it shouldn't be an issue. If you did change consoles, simply perform a "license transfer"...it's in the xbox menus now in account management. So, therefore, you should have access to content you downloaded with the
old gamertag, with a new gamertag. But remember if you ever need to redownload that content you would have to be able to sign in with your old gamertag. You cannot transfer the download history from one gamertag to another as Juan Van was eluding to.

 

well unless you had your saves backed up (either on a flash drive or the cloud which is only available to gold members) you wont be getting those back sorry. your achievements are linked to your account so when you recover it to your console you will still
have those as well as the ability to download anything you ever bought or download again for free. to recover your account you just need to know your log in email and password and I THINK you can only change your tag from your console once you have it recovered
you will be able to do it.

 

Thank you for replying davemcfly85.I was a gold member when i had the Xbox 360 white model 60 GB.When you say saves, i suppose you mean the single player campaign saves.For me that is insignificant.I would like to know about the multiplayer scores.I am level
41 in Halo 4.When i purchase a new console, will the multiplayer score and rank be retained on the new console? My achievements will remain and i will be able to download any DLC that i had downloaded before.Ok that's good.

I can't really say if your level in Halo 4 will remain intact or not as some people have experienced level resets in the past but hopefully you will still be where you left off.

You will be able to access you previously purchased content from your download history on the console by going to Settings>Accounts>Download History.

Don't forget to do a license transfer to the new console first though.

Finally, if you do choose to change your gamertag's name then it will cost you $10 to do so.
