Well, given that you were trying to change sensitive information, it is a good idea to notify him of this verification procedure. It would be a good idea to enter the verification code, because if he tries to change some setting, this would stop him from changing it.

For those sort of account lockouts, there's not much that can be done. You would have to check your account in a console, or wait for the time shown to you to pass. This is a safety feature that is used to protect your account against it getting hacked or modified without your permission.
