I don't disagree with what you've said above. It's true that some players may abuse the gamertag system. A gamertag is a unique name or username and as much as possible you choose one that you're going to use for the longest time because that would be your identity online. You could actually change it once for free but there will be a fee on your next change. In my opinion, many players could get away from their violations if they just changed their username after committing a violation to other players. It would be hard for them to find that player. So at least by enforcing a gamertag change fee, they could not just simply change it whenever they want to.

Years ago if your gamertag violated the ToU/CoC you would get a forced name change & then would be able to change your tag again for free.That system was abused like crazy & not just by young children.

Even though you have to pay for a name change there are people who change their gamertag every couple of months.My friends 15 year old son does it all the time.Hate to think how many times he would change it if it was free.

If you want to change your gamertag for content reasons then you'll need to pay.There's no way around that.

That would still lead to abuse you forget anytime anyone has the ability to abuse they will do so

You forget that forced name changes wouldn't have consequences if they greely changed their names without thought and yes people havr complained about using their ONE name change and getting banned again?

You do know that every console AND Most games actually charge for name changes to prevent abuse

It's only some systems like epic and steam however this doesn't include mmorpgs or slg or RTS and mobile games

Did you know in real life changing your name has consequences ? Legally and personally? Why not in gaming pretty sure it's common since most games do charge

They changed this rule a while ago when people abused the report function to get free name changes. If your name was deemed inappropriate, they'd change the name to a random generated one and you'd have to pay $10 just like any other gamertag change.

I personally think this is a good idea, because so many people abused the system prior. Blame the idiots who cheated the system to get free name changes for making this new rule. Don't blame Microsoft for trying to stop people from cheating their system
for a free name change.

no they force you to change it because people were abusing the free name change. in the past if you had a inappropriate name you would get a prompt to change it before being allowed on the live service, too many people were just changing it to something
just as bad so the PET decided to auto change it instead.
