I downloaded a mod for Minecraft and now my computer is running terribly.

According to your description, your computer was running badly after you downloaded the mod, and it stayed the same after you deleted it. It sounds like the OptiFine mod may have caused some performance issues, or it could be linked to other factors that are impacting your system’s gaming performance. Here’s a breakdown of things you can try to help get your system back to normal:

Revert to Default Settings

Since OptiFine is a performance optimization mod for Minecraft, it might have changed some of your system’s settings or created conflicts:

• Reinstall Minecraft and completely delete all mods.
  

• Go to your .minecraft folder (you can find it by typing %appdata% in the Windows search bar) and delete the modded files or the whole folder. Reinstall Minecraft from scratch without any mods, especially OptiFine, to see if the issue clears up.
  

• Reset your Minecraft settings to default (within the launcher settings) to make sure there aren’t any lingering OptiFine configurations affecting game performance.
  

Update Graphics Drivers

Sometimes, modding Minecraft can lead to conflicts with your GPU drivers:

• Update your GPU drivers to the latest version available from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel, depending on your graphics card. Sometimes, updating these drivers resolves performance issues caused by conflicts.

Reinstall Game Drivers/Software

• If you’re experiencing issues with multiple games, it could be an issue with DirectX or Visual C++ Redistributables. Reinstall these to ensure the game libraries are up-to-date and functioning properly.
  

• DirectX can be downloaded from Microsoft’s official website.
  

• Visual C++ Redistributables are also essential and can be downloaded from the Microsoft site.
  

Check for Disk Errors

• Run a Disk Check to rule out potential issues with your storage device (SSD or HDD). Sometimes errors on the disk can cause system slowdowns.
  

• Open Command Prompt as administrator and type chkdsk /f and press Enter. This will check and attempt to fix any errors on your disk.
  

Disclaimer: Running chkdsk can check the file system and file system metadata of a volume for logical and physical errors. To avoid any trouble for you, do not cancel or interrupt chkdsk, and back up important data.

I would love to play this but....My computer is so bad it can't even run Minecraft.

We actually finally gave up and returned the X-Box One and the Minecraft game (for the 3rd time.) We bought a comparable laptop PC and downloaded the digital version with no problems. We can't play any of the mods, however - we get Trojan virus warnings
which lock up his computer - continually. Wish we could have afforded a Mac laptop (virus free!) but he'll have to play with no mods for now I guess.

i have the lowest settings possible and my computer used to run minecraft maxed with a 400 fps with ease
