I don't Understand...

I don't understand why people are having so much trouble with the Fume Knight. In FIVE HOURS of co-oping this boss only three people have survived the fight. It is freaking pathetic. How do these people even make it through the levels to get to him?

They INSIST on trying to block his attacks (and get killed) when others they have summoned roll around him untouched. They keep summoning the USELESS DLC phantoms that boost his health and are worthless for the actual fight. They do dumb stuff like spam
pyromancy that does no damage (this was also a problem with dragon on the last dlc), they kite him over to the ash statues that heal him...



COMMON PEOPLE! His attacks are very predictable and EASY to roll through... And for God's sake LOOK AT WHAT YOU ARE FIGHTING! If an enemy uses a certain type of magic it is a good bet they are HIGHLY resistant to it. (This is true of most video games)

Gwyn was weak to fire, so it's not a foregone conclusion that an enemy that uses fire will have strong defense against it.

That said, his attacks are not that predictable considering he can break his combos up into different move sets. Also, the fact that DS2 has terrible hitboxes and tracking issues, I wouldn't claim that it's easy to roll through his attacks. Numerous times
I've rolled into or around an attack only to have him turn and catch me on a follow through.

Lastly, fighting a boss is different from getting through the level to get to the boss. You might be the best DS player ever, so it might be easy for you, but there's no need to denigrate others because they don't operate as well as or in the fashion that
you think they should.

 

His attacks are predictable. He always does 1 or two possible combo's of attack. Now there is a combo set for his dual sword and fire sword, but really if you roll past/into him, he will miss you. His long fire sweep? Roll through it, against the swing.
His "follow through" sweep from behind is easy enough to dodge if you don't get greedy and waste all your stamina attacking him.

I never said it was a sure thing that a enemy using magic makes them resistant, I just said it was a good "bet". And Gywn was the exception not the rule. Besides people should be able to see that the fire does nothing to him and give up. But when someone
summons me three times and is still trying to use pyromancy on the Fume Knight I'm just going to black crystal out.

Another development has happened now. People summon me and DON'T ATTACK. They just run from the boss and expect me to solo the boss for them.\

Maybe I am just the best DS player ever.... (If simply being able to observe an enemy and learn how to dodge their attacks makes me the best)





I've been summoned by one person NINE times and he/she is still trying the same broken tactics of trying to tank Fume's attacks and toss fireballs. Can you honestly say you wouldn't be frustrated?

 

He doesn't always do 1 or 2 possible combos. He can lead with either sword. Can use the quick sword up to 3 times, can switch then to the greatsword for another hit, or can go earlier to the greatsword for up to 2 more attacks. He can also do quick swipes
with both swords. He also has running attacks with both swords.

You can roll through long fire sweep, but if you mess up, it's huge damage. He's also very fast after buffing himself. I find it works to roll to the right of him, but it's not guaranteed, nor will everyone pick that up right away.

I understand being frustrated, especially with hosts that expect you to do all the work. If hosts persist in trying stuff that doesn't work, you could try sending them a friendly message to help them instead of denigrating them and/or their intelligence.

 

I do send them helpful messages, and I'm not insulting their intelligence.

I'm just not getting what makes this boss so hard for others. I'm not having any difficulty dodgeing his attacks.

 

Just because something is easy for you doesn't mean that it's easy for everyone. I had some trouble on him at first, mostly because he hits so hard, so it made me not want to get in too close. Now, I know to stick closer to him and only roll out when you
need a heal (or at sl1, only roll out when you need to get a break from his relentless attacks, lol).

The best thing you can do is help the people who summon you by messages that are informational and also by demonstrating through your actions. This boss is pretty new still, so I'm sure people will get better at fighting him.

 

He kicked my butt the first 2-3 times I tried him. But even when I try to help people they still refuse to take the hint, or learn from their mistakes. That is the frustration.

 

Send them a PM beforehand asking them if they have fought him or not. If not, give them tips to help them before going in. That's what I would do anyway

It would be nice it reporting these hateful messages would actually get people the ban they deserve.

 

It does...sometimes. If you venture over to the "I'm banned...why?" thread (not what it's actually called) you'll find lots of messages from people who got banned for just this sort of thing. I'm sure it happens so much that the chances of getting banned
is pretty low, but it does happen from time to time.

Also, you could try and keep putting your sign down. If that person summons you again, sabotage them. Don't help. Draw the boss over to the player when the player is trying to get away to heal.

You really (really) need to understand that some people just are no good against certain types of bosses. Getting to Fume and fighting him are two wildly, completely, unbelievably different things. His hit boxes are ****ing *** and until you've been in
the round with him several times he comes out too fast and hard.

If you can't handle hosts dying to this guy, maybe you should stop trying to co-op there and save yourself the irritation.

GraniteDevil: In FIVE HOURS only three host managed to survive... NO Anyone would be getting sick of scrubs.
