I changed my gamertag and now my account has 2 gamertag

We understand that after creating a new Xbox gamertag it still your old one that shows up on your profile.

This issue may have been caused by settings in your Xbox account or console that need to be changed. Or it may also be a problem with how the changes were made. So let us work together as a team to get to the bottom of this. But to better assist you I need to ask:

1) Just so we are in the same page here, when you changed to the new gamertag you did follow the steps from our How to change your Xbox gamertag guide, right?

2) If you followed that guide, make the change via the web or via your Xbox console?

3) Where are you seeing both gamertags? On the Xbox console? On the Xbox app for Windows?

I have 2 accounts. My original xbox account had my gamertag changed from the default one to the one it has now (the gamertag I would like to have) and I have my new account which I had as a Microsoft account before they were merged. My Microsoft account is what I use everything for, but I want to have my Xbox gamertag on that account. That account was set up as an Xbox account, and when I tried to change the gamertag for it, the limit for characters was 12. So in short I have had the gamertag in the past, and still do. But it needs to be put onto a different account. And to be clear, the gamertag is the only thing I care about from my original account. If I can get my Microsoft account to have my gamertag I would likely delete my old account entirely.

I just changed my gamertag and the EA account says I still have it linked to my old gamertag. I haven't changed my Microsoft account at all only my gamertag. I can't get it back since to change your gamertag it has to be under 12 characters and my old gamertag is 14 characters.

That is incorrect, the system has given me the option to have one free change for months now. I just used it and it said it successfully changed my name and now the free option is no longer there.

The problem now is:

1.) My free change that has existed for months until I used it, is gone.

2.) It's been hours and my name hasn't changed.

3.) The gamertag I changed it to was immediately unavailable after I confirmed the change, all the while I can't search for that account name in the system because it doesn't exist.

As I stated above the system online specifically said I had a free gamertag change, the circumstances around it are irrelevant. It said I had a changed, I used and even confirmed said change without a problem. The gamertag I choose was immediately unavailable
after I confirmed it and yet that account doesn't exist so the system is aware that someone took that gamertag at the exact moment I did and that the gamertag is un-available and yet my gamertag is still the same as it was before and no such account at the
name I changed to exists.

There is no other excuse. I had a free change, I used it, I confirmed it, the system allowed it to be confirmed, when I confirmed, the gamertag became un-usable and yet my gamertag remains the same and now I am prompted to pay for a change, a change that
was free before I confirmed it and was led to believe would work.
