I changed emails for Xbox accounts and I keep getting emails to the old email not the new one.

On Contact Preferences have you checked Xbox Newsletter / Marketing and Partner Marketing?

So basically you're going to want to go to Xbox.com & sign in, then from there make sure you've switched to Desktop View or Desktop Site depending on the browser you're using, you'll then click your little profile icon in the top right corner to show a small drop down menu. You'll see two links "My Microsoft Account" & "Xbox Profile". Look to the right side of the Xbox Profile link & you'll see 3 dots. Click those 3 dots & you'll get a little pop up menu, choose the "Xbox Settings" options from there.

The Xbox Settings page will load & the next thing from there will be selecting the "Contact Preferences" option on the left side of the Xbox Settings page (make sure you're in desktop view mode or this option will not be visible) and then changing your email once the contact preferences page loads. You will see 3 options on this page, 2 of which are boxes you can toggle on or off by ticking the check mark, & the 3rd option is to change the preferred contact email at the bottom.

Do you know if there is a way to merge the accounts then? My old email address, that is also a gmail account, needed to be changed due to security problems. I changed my email and want to be able to keep my Gamertag but using the new email address. My goal is to get all accounts attached to the old email changed to the new one for security reasons. No, the email address I want to use is the new one. I've already recovered my old account (this one) which is the one I want to keep, just attached to the new email address. I've created a new microsoft account and xbox account for the email I want to
use, but when I try to 'Change Microsoft Account' on my xbox it says the email doesn't have an xbox account. But I can use that email to log into the website and can use it on my xbox by downloading that profile.

so... email 1 is used for the "" account, and email 2 is newly set up with "Temporary Placeholder style name" account. I try to Change Microsoft account from email 1 to email 2, but it says there is no account on email 2.

The email on this account is only active temporarily and I am trying to change it to the new email so I do not loose my purchases.

If I understood you wanna yse the Email from the new Xbox account on the old one. If yes you need to change the Email for the new one first to disconnect Email and Xbox account. Then you need to change the Email alias for your old Xbox account on account.xbox.com.
There you need to first add ne Email and then set it as primary alias for the account.
